Hi,
Since my 2003 engine is on the stand, I took off the oil pan and pulled one rod cap to take a look at the bearing insert and crank. I am trying to determine if the bolts are one time use, or can be retorqued. Searching here and google, I am coming up with limited and conflicting information. Any experience. I dont want to have to buy a set of 16 bolts if I dont have to, but I dont want a rod hanging out the oil pan in a year either.....

The manual says nothing about a one time use. They are not TTY bolts. Tried to download a file but it was too large.

you can tell by the torque spec. if it says x#lbs then 1/4 turn, then you need new ones. if its jus x#lbs then you dont. however if you are in it that far then why not get them?

Actually, I stopped at the ford dealership yesterday, and you can buy them loose there. I just ordered two new ones.

I am still considering spinning new con rod bearing shells while it is out, but at the same time, I am on a budget and the existing ones look good. The truck has about 180k km (120k miles) on it.
