Been doing a lot of reading and research online about which alternator to go with for my 6.0, seems most people go with DC power, seems like a good product only big things ive read is customer service and always being in short supply. havent read much on the mean greans, saw that some were running power bastards and found one DB electrical. definitely not going to run an autozone or parts store alternator, I am leaning towards the DC 185, (wanted the 190HD but it wont fit with my mishimoto CAC pipes) i see that most the others are over the 200 amp mark which I like as mine has heated seats, just cant afford $830 for the DC 270 and wiring kit. thats why im just here asking for opinions, reviews, and any insight you guys might have, sorry for the long winded post. thanks guys!! also i have a single alternator setup

I don't see where you list any power hungry accessories ?
the real downfall of OEM is the small case can't dissipate heat and it has a low output at idle the actual max amp isn't an issue for most users it's not like your in the red with heated seats or even an AMP and AC all at the same time so the 185-200 is a good choice for most

I tried to get DC to be proactive and helpful on threads and issues and i thought they were going to turn it around but I am not sure where they are service wise now ??

I have the Nations 185 larger case alternator. It seems this is the same one as the DC 185 if you read Nations Alternator description...?
Works great for my use which includes hauling a 5th wheel and camper so it has to handle the load of the camper battery if it is a bit low. Never had an issue in the past 15 months.
Sure a whole lot better than the stock one.
Never had any low voltage issues like I did with the stock one especially when the GP's were on..sure it still drops a bit but not like it did with the stock. I have all the factory accessories and even with the heated seats and the AC running no drop in output...yah I know why would I have both on...cause its easy to bump the heated seat switch and turn em on when getting in...think we had a thread on this about 7 months back.
I see the DC 185 is out of stock on DC website but not so on Nations..but who knows until you ask. I think i went with Nations because the answered their phone actually.

I do understand that they use the large style case, ficmrepair said the reason the hd series will not work with the CAC pipe because the HD cases are about 1 inch longer than the 185 case, you are correct i do not have many large current drawing items, just glow plugs, headed seats and regular vehicle lights, no stereo or any other aftermarket accessories, same thing just trying to be proactive and try to keep my ficm as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

I run the DC185 from nations. It confused me at first when I called DC they recommended using nations bc everyone else was out. It doesn't say DC on it but I was assured by DC and Nations it is a DC 185. Nations had great customer service and super fast shipping.

I have the 185 or 190 that they don't sell anymore but it is the OEM series
i have had it for many years and with the camper on the back it charges 4 batteries

i also have solar and a genny so I installed a bi directional battery isolator
anytime the camper or the truck is at over 13 volts they connect to each other

I have a nations 185stock wires. I run about 1000 watt sub amp and while sound system plus when I have the lights on with fifth wheel hooked up and I still normally see like 13.6 volts. I am going to upgrade wires and see if I can't up that number to like 14.4-14.8 most people say that iswhere they should be with upgraded wires

Yah i think the only difference is if you get it from DC the pulley is black and says DC. I got confused too as I thought mine was a DC but when I was working on it yesterday it had a nations sticker but on the Nations product description it clearly stated it was designed by DC.

Awesome. Thanks you guys for all the info. I'm looking at nations now. Nice that there good people to deal with. And yeah Ed does sell DC alternators that's where I found out about the 270. But there just to expensive and don't think Id really need it not running any subs or extra lights

My DC 190 was tight to my stock charge pipe, had KC 1.5 installed and there was plenty of room, I was looking at it going WTF? When I put the KC Stage 2 on, same thing, plenty of room for bigger charge pipe, without checking, I believe on Charlies turbos, the compressor housing has washers on the comp housing and you can loosen the bolts and clock the housing to gain some clearance.
I'm sure someone will chime in if that's not correct. :please::eek:hnoes::rofl:

I have mishimoto charge air pipes. And that's what I've heard about the HD series alternators. I'm hoping the 190OEM series will fit with my CAC piping. Anyone know the length of the alternator from the front of the pulley?
