I'm in the market to get a chip or a programmer. From what I understand getting a custom chip is much better that a programmer especially for your transmission if you have an automatic which I have. Yesterday I was leaning towards a programmer due to that fact that I like that it can read codes if the check engine light or something else went on. So my question is which chip would be the best to go with. From what I've read on here people like the TW, Beans, or DP. The thing I don't quite understand about the whole chip thing is how it actually works. Does it act the same way as a plug in programmer but you plug it into your PCM I believe? If this is true, does this basically trick your computer? I am fairly new to diesels so please be kind. I understand I need gauges before installing a chip. I apologize for having several questions in one post. I just want to make the right decision for the money. Also if this might help as of right now my truck is bone stock. I will be doing the 6637 filter and cutting the muffler off this week. And once I figure out the chip thing, I'll probably be ordering a chip and gauges. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
