Hey guys,

I just did the CCV mod and currently have it venting into the atmosphere toward the back half of my fuel tank along the frame... However I don't like the smell nor do I like the amout of oil I am getting on my rear axle... Can you guys show me some pics of your set ups? I know that Raul sells the kit that was made by NCHornet.. but im not ready to fork over that kind of money just yet... it seems like i should be pretty simple to make a catch can and re-route back to the intake.. just curious as to whats out there.. I did search but im interested in pics mainly.. thanks

I normally don't respond to the CCV mod threads but I felt this may be the exception. I ask all my customers to not post photos of my mod on the internet, and I appreciate each and everyone that has kept from doing so. While it may seem to you that I am ripping folks off and a simple catch can shouldn't be so hard to make, let me invite you to do so for yourself. The Powerstrokes are extremely sensitive to backpressure and very small differences can seriously affect engine puking oil everywhere. I had very sensitive instruments hooked up to my truck to determine the best way to do this mod. I have now sold close to 1,000 units. In spite of what some think by the time you buy all the components, pay Stealth for their share there isn't a heck of a lot left.Materials have doubled in cost since 2003 and I have never raised my price. I try and make it affordable for everyone. But it does help me to afford some very expensive medications that I require to live each day. I am not against you wanting to reinvent the wheel, I just wanted you to understand why I ask that people don't post photos of my mod, or post photos of others that have directly copied my mod either.Some of which are companies instead of individuals. Yes I was aware of why you don't have pictures of yours.. I respect that and would do the same thing.. hopefully you can get your patent soon... I also stated that I am not ready to pay that price "just yet" as I want to try and save a dollar.. i realize that you have done the research and taken the time to make a quality product that is obviously doing well.. however I just bought a house and am getting married soon and was just wanting to use something that would not "hurt" my truck until I could afford your unit.. By the time you buy the materials yourself, you won't be saving any money and the quality won't be close to what Hornet's is. No offense, but it's a great kit, but it's also not a necessary kit...Again, no offense to either parties. With that said, I have the CCV mod and I completely understand why Hornet wouldn't want customers to post pictures.

My advice is if your going to do it, do it right. Why buy something, make it, it not work(possibly not work as it should OR as well), and then buy Hornets kit a few months down the line? Just my .02

I'm of a different opinion than most on this CCV mod issue. I really don't think it's reasonable or fair that pictures of the device can't be posted on a message board or anywhere else on the internet. Having gone through the patent process myself, once the patent has been applied for, the clock has started on when the innovation was manifested, and furthermore, an element of protection begins upon receipt of the application. If NCHornet is pursuing a patent, there's absolutely no reason pictures can't be posted. Furthermore, the spirit of innovation is competition, and if a person can come up with a better mousetrap, why should artificial obstacles to potential innovation be put in place?

I think it's kind of a shame this artificial censorship allowed to take place on this forum. We should all be about bolstering an environment in which free thinking, innovation, and competition are allowed to flourish.

No disrespect to NCHornet, but there's absolutely no reason pictures of this device can't be posted. You having filed for your patent is protection enough, and frankly, and I mean this with the utmost respect, a patent is only as good as your ability to defend it. If I were you, I'd want as much exposure/free marketing as is possible to move as much product volume as the market will support.

I fail to see where this forum was consenting to censoring anybody. Why would you even type something like that? What I read was one member of the forum seeking support from other members of the forum in the form of a good will gesture. All he was doing was asking. I see nowhere in this post where the owners of this forum demand that no pictures be posted. Censorship? Where are you getting your information?

fellas fellas.. didn't mean to start a riot here... First off, I never stated that I wanted pics of NCHornets set up. I said "Can you guys show me some pics of your set ups?"... Second, If NCHornet doesn't want to show his set up that is his call. I can respect that. Third, it doesn't matter if I agree or you agree with anyone's decision about how they do business, Yes I have my theories and I know you guys have yours. We all know that NCHornet has a good product and clearly it is working for him and others, and If I didn't have to pinch pennies like most of us on here do I would gladly fork over the money to have that kit along with the money for shipping and for hose, simply because I would rather support another member of this community than a hardware store. That all being said, I really think I can accomplish what I want to accomplish without buying the kit (as many of you have done and will continue to do.) I took no offense at all to what NCHornet said. He disagrees with my thoughts on the subject and is trying to sell his product (There is nothing wrong with that) we simply agree to disagree for the time being and move on.

I simply wanted to see some pictures or other ideas that people have come up with. I am fortunate enough to have access to a lot of materials that others would have to go buy. So I honestly think I can come up with something that gets the job done safely for me without spending the money on the kit. That doesn't mean I don't think its a great kit or anything like that. No need for all of us to be all fired up about everything. I see both sides and appreciate the comments from everyone.

I am lazy right now, didn't read all posts. I ran NCs set up on my 06. Great quality an it is doing the job!!!!!! I would have done it any better myself.

Just have to watch the socialistic, monopoly crap . . . it's still a capitalistic, free country even though President Zero is ruining/running it . . . a ccv mod is not a complicated endeavor, so most people will more than likely end up with somewhat the same design and function in the end.

I used a piece of black pvc pipe for the delete . . . then a piece of heater hose run down and over to the exhaust with a bung welded on so that it exits out the back of the truck. Also, the crankcase gets vented in the same fashion it did from the factory by receiving some vacuum pull from the exhaust like it did from the intake/turbo OE. :thumb:

I’m actually making one myself home made. Basically it takes the oil vapors and turns them into wine. I will be the first truck to have no oily turbo boots and free wine!

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a bunch of PVC, fittings and hose laying around, I was going to take a shot at my own design and see how it works. As long as the truck doesn't start leaking oil I'm not worried about it. I'll take some pics and let you know how it works. No offense at all to anyone that's designed one of these, But I see where you're coming from. I've always been a mechanic, liked to work on things and fab up my own stuff whenever possible. I don't in any way want to step on any toes or copy someone else's design, and it doesn't sound like you do either, so I don't see any problem with you wanting to come up with something on your own.

I'm not a real big fan of wine, but have it produce beer, and I am all over it!

I used a hunk of hose, a clamp or two and some zip ties.
It is vented right behind the front tire, ziptied to the frame. If you don't like the fresh diesel truck smell, go buy yourself a Prius and stay in the right lane, please.

I really do understand Hornets point of view in attempt to protect his idea so it can be patented but as with anything out there that has a patent on it all it takes is a very minor change in design to get around the patent. I've seen half a dozen different home made CCV "kits" just looking at trucks in my area, there is no magical technology here. IDK maybe it would be better for him to publish pictures of his kit in diesel mags and pictures on the diesel forums. I just think the more people that see it the more people will want it. Is the reason he doesn't do that because he isn't able to produce a high volume of kits and if that's the case I don't understand the point of going for a patent on something that's being produced in such low quantities.

I run Hornet's ccv and have no issues at all. I also have no problem paying for a product from a reputable dealer and one that has clearly gone through the research and development. Like NCHornet said and most of you know powerstrokes are known for being particular. If nothing else when you buy his kit you buy the assurance you won't turn your motor into an oil fountain.


And I like Beer and Wine.

I people wonder why I don't usually post in these threads, lol!!! Sounds like me and the OP are just fine and have a understanding and that is all I can ask, so all is cool there. I actually agree with him to a point. Nobody understands limited funds than me, but when the risk is severe enough, I would rather save up and buy a proven product than to risk the damage. This is not referring to my product at all, but my theory in general, so don't twist my words to fit your ideas.
If you don't agree with me not posting photos that is your business and that's just fine. As I said before I am thankful for everyone of my customers who have honored my wishes and refrained from posting the photos, once again, A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL 1,000 OF YOU OUT THERE. If don't agree with my wishes, fine, throw your scrap PVC fittings together and have a blast. You and I know darn well the only reason for wanting a photo is so you can copy it and steal someone's hard work, call it what you want, but that is what it is.This isn't the first time I have addressed this issue, and my work has been stolen more than once. There is no where good that this thread can go from here so let's hope one of the mod's lock it up. It's not censorship, it's been there done that and have the box of T Shirts.
