Whats the best kit/method for deactivating the EGR and still pass the California visual smog inspection. Not that I would, just curious!
this is hat i was going to suggest. If you plug the cooler you will get an egr flow code depending on year of truck. You would need a "smog tune" from a tuner. I personally went with a bulletproof egr cooler.

umm, no... Where did you read that?Just driving in the freeze plugs have been known to come out and take out the turbo.
Happened to mine but I was lucky enough to find a dealer that took care of me under warranty.umm, no... Where did you read that?
^^^thisI have a BPD cooler with a solid uppipe and plug on back of cooler, my EGR valve is welded shut. I passed smog with ID Extreme Street installed that shuts off EGR.
For a 100% stock truck (no tuning). Keep the egr valve and egr cooler on the truck. Weld a washer on the exhaust intake of the egr cooler.Whats the best kit/method for deactivating the EGR and still pass the California visual smog inspection. Not that I would, just curious!

I failed the first time because I had changed the tune to one with less smoke, anticipating a smoke test. They said it wasn't "ready". So I drove it around for a couple days and took it to a different, more "shady" shop. Passed in 5 min, no smoke check, no plugging into my computer hahah
From what it looked like heat melted it and went through the turbo destroying the vanes. How would a freeze plug that is properly sized and pounded into the egr cooler "take out" a turbo? If it goes anywhere it will be lodged into the egr cooler.
