any updates @Easy Rooster ?

in the same boat with a #7 cyl. Getting my nerves up to pull the trigger. either a KDD or Choate
Consider an engine conversion. I did a full Cummins conversion, by myself, at home , working just on the weekends, in less time that it takes to get a replacement 6.4L long block delivered.
Couldn't be happier with it. Its such a popular conversion that most parts are off-the-shelf and very little actual custom work needs to be done. The 08-10 trucks are great in all areas except reliability, a Cummins fixes that issue.

Here's a link to a build thread that details most of the conversion process.

gonna start studying up on the Fummins possibility. Your thread will be the start!!

If i install a beauty of a 6.4L built strong, am i gaining anything in a Cummins? Or just complicating a reliable platform?
Cummins motor choice? Which one is best in power and reliability? Transmission adapters or am i going there too? The 5R110W seems like it has a decent reputation.

cost would be my other concern. Comparable to the new 6.4? remembering that ive already paid a shop to remove/disassemble an engine.

Id love peoples opinions on 6.4 builders, Fummins swap?

maybe i should start my own thread? Nothing better than a bunch of threads about the same situation
Just google around the internet on Fummins swaps, there is enough out there to keep you reading for awhile. At the end of the day its a personal preference decision. The P-Pump Cummins 12 valve I chose is far more reliable that the 6.4L PSD (and much less complicated) , I seriously doubt anyone would even bother to argue about that. But any swap makes the vehicle custom such that your regular every day repair shop won't want to touch it.

I did the conversion 100% by myself (didn't even have someone to hold a flashlight), so it can be done. But it was a big time/ effort commitment.

I would be interested in some form of swap, if it was reasonable to have a shop perform. But that seems unlikely??
Yeah, shops with do them, but it isn't cheap.

Diesel Conversion Specialist (DCS) , the company I bought the conversion parts from, does the conversion turn key in their shop.

Talking with a performance diesel shop in my local area (near San Antonio, TX) they said it'd be at least $15K in labor charges (no parts, just labor) for them to do a similar conversion.

@Antonm @zidaro

Please continue this conversation in another thread. The cummins/fumins swap is well known with any amount of research and 3-4 big names make full on kits with everything. This PARTICULAR thread follows one persons expereince with a 6.4l. If you have issues/ your backstory please start your new thread so it can be continued there in a fresh thread not in the middle of another. This will help others find yours and not overshadow another longer thread keepings things way more organized for everyone.
This PARTICULAR thread is titled " So I've blown my 6.4 Power Joke, Do I bother fixing it? " , so the discussion we're having is relevant to the topic. Which makes that option one possibility for any future someone that may be searching for the information under such a topic title, so it IS organized for everyone.

rooster has picked his poison ( KDD 6.4) and is keeping that thread alive and in that direction
you helped zidaro and I agree with Heavy it is best to let that other thread live Cummins free since that ship has sailed for him

in other words this is a great topic and deserves it's own thread and I totally agree I would go cummins before the best 6.4 money could buy
True, Rooster picked a poison, but that poison hasn't shown up yet (that we know of ), and his truck is still sitting somewhere not able to move under its own power. So he still could go a different route. I know I would at this point, even if that different route were a 6.4 from another supplier.
