First post here!

Recently bought an ambulance (2008 F-350) i'll be converting over the next year or so and since it'll be sitting for long periods of time I figure I'd buy a battery tender. It came with an adaptor to charge through the ODB2 port, was wondering, does anyone else use/do this? Is it an ODB2 standard?

Thanks,

Matt

If you are using a solar panel charger then I could see using it. But if you are plugging it into the wall it would make more sense to connect the battery. The solar ones also put out much less than a plug in charger. So using it with a Battery Tender might be asking for trouble. They have a 10 fuse. Not sure if the OBD wires are hefty enough for more than an amp or two.

I'd spend 3x the money on other methods to keep my batteries charged over using a OBD port.

Given the available parts it can be as easy as a Battery Tender that you mount to the truck, just plug it in when you need it. Or buy a stand alone charger that you need to remove every time you drive the truck.
