i recently accidently left my ICP sensor off while running, many people say it should die if it is unplugged, it is also very oily in side the plug, i also hear this is another sign that it is bad, but i also use the resistor mod sometimes and see good results. i also hear that if the icp is bad, the resistor mod wont work. is it bad or not?

If it has oil in it, it is bad. Your truck will still run without the ICP plugged in, but it will have a weird throttle response. When you use a resistor, you are basically manually setting what pressure the the HPO regulator is putting out. So it will probably still work (sort of) even if your ICP is not.

Look on ebay, and just buy a new sensor. They are about $130.

The resistor kinda over rides the ICP. If all is fine with the resistor in place and not fine when you pull it out the ICP is bad espcialy with oil in it.

Also instead of pulling the ICP plug and wearing out the plug you may consider putting the resistor on a switch:nod:

can i just get a new sensor or valve cover from a junk yard?

ANOTHER THING! when i left it unplugged, the engine light came on, i plugged it back in and it went off.

What do you need a valve cover for? I would get a new ICP there is no way of telling if you are getting a good one or not. I just pulled a new one off my truck and put the bad one back on before the insurance company came and got it.

doesnt it plug into the valve cover?

No it threads into the hi presure oil rail. When you go to change it you will need a 9/16 crows foot on a 8" exstention or a stubby open end wrench. It is a pita to get to. The new ones are desighned diferent with the nut on the top to get to easy. If it for sure bad a pare of channel locks work well to just grab the body of the sensor with the channel locks it is easier than to try to get a wrench on the sensor.:thumb:

If the ICP sensor is bad will it slightly miss when taking off and miss after being revved?

That could be a number of things. Starting with the CPS.

Well i was thinking it was the icp because mine has oil in it. So i figured that was the problem if it fits the description

could be you realy need to get it on a scanner.:thumb:

Well kind of screwed with the scanner. lol. I am just going to replace the icp and see if it fixes it and if not looks like im going to have to find a way to put it on a scanner
