I'm down from albany to deliver a transmission and pick up a car to bring back to boston and my waterpump decised to take a crap on me. Thankfully I have most of my tools with me and could do this, but I don't know about doing it in the parking lot of a part store.

I believe that I am in or near a town called Mims? just off 95 about 40 miles north of Cocoa Beach. If anyone could lend a hand please give me a call at 518-209-9773

Or if anyone wants to make some cash trailering me up to Jacksonville I have a Uhaul trailer on the back of my truck to which my truck could be loaded onto. I brought an 08 Toyota Seqoia down to GA on it, so my truck SHOULD fit.

Anyhow if anyone out there can help please let me know

Thanks

I wish I was there for you. As long as you have the fan clutch wrenches you should be ok.

no fan clutch wrenches :-( I did pick up a new pump at napa in Titusville FL. Course in my drive from there to a hotel I think my truck was completely out of water.

I topped it off before I left the napa, but I'm not feeling good about this at all now. it was only a minor leak from the weep hole but by the time I got here to this hotel it's pretty bad. Lets say no water in the lower rad hose bad. course the engine still starts and runs fine right now, and I filled it up with hot water from my hotel room, and ran in for a few minutes and have heat at the dash and seem to be getting some flow thru the radiator.

Just have to wonder if it may be too late and I pushed it to far trying to get to someplace reasonable safe to do this. The guys at Napa said I didn't want to be caught there after dark working on my truck :-/

Sucks that I am 1100 miles from my shop in albany, ny with a limited assortment of tools (mainly needing a ladder for the 6in lift) and in a days in parking lot outside the Kennedy Space Center waiting for the engine and the ambient air temp to cool so I might be able to work on this.

If there is anyone in the area of 3755 Cheney Highway in Titusville, FL and knows of an autozone where I could get the clutch tools please give me a call or stop by :) Look for the Orange F250 with a 6in lift and its owner curled up in a fetal position under the engine.

so it seems that advanced auto 2.8 miles from where I am sitting has the fan clutch set. Now I just need to find a good way to hold the pulley.

so after a bunch of walking to find the tools, I begin this project, only to find out that the fan nut tool from advanced auto seems to be bent or otherwise mangled. So now on to walk another 6 miles to have them replace it so I can try this again.

I am soooooo kicking myself for not packing my huge adjustable wrench that I use for swapping hitch balls on my reciever. That would SOOOO work right now.

Good luck man, Damn I wish I lived closer to where you are, but south Alabama is a bit of a drive.
Maybe you could get it towed to the local dealership or something.
Anyways good luck!!

a pipe wrench to the rescue this morning. It was easier to get off than I thought. Now to finish breakfast and then check with the manager of the hotel about a later checkout so I can rock this out and then grab a shower since it is hotter than hades outside already for this pale guy from upstate NY.

Man bruce, I am glad you got it all worked out. Your luck sounds like mine!!! Seriously, if I went somewhere far away mine would throw a rod or something. Still, if you need help let me know.

Bruce,
I'm really glad you got it worked out. I kept bumping the post up for you last night hoping someone would come along to your rescue. I called your number too, but you didn't answer. I am really surprised that no Fla. members were there to help you out. I have always felt like having brothers to come to your rescue was one of the perks of being a member of the org. Surprised me......guess no one was on last night or not close enough to help. Hope you have a safe trip back to NY.

Later dude...............

Thanks to everyone that helped out, bumped the thread, ect...

After getting frustrated that first night when the tools I rented from advanced seemed to be slightly damaged (the wrench for the nut was stretched to wide and would slip off the nut), the pipe wrench suggestion saved the day.

Broke the fan free at 9:30am or so, then picked up my omelette from the IHOP that was built into my hotel. I ate that and then checked with the manager about a later checkout. She said that she could give me till noon without having to charge me. So I was in a bit of a hurry.

11:38am and I was filling the system back up with tap water from my room, praying that (A) i didn't forget anything, and (B) that I hadn't caused any engine damage. (Yeah seems that when the system is totally empty your temp gauge is USELESS, I figure I drove for a couple of minutes in stop/go with no water in the system. Save for whatever was in the block itself, lower rad hose was dry.

Upon firing it up everything seemed good. no leaks (cept that while filling I noticed I forgot the heater hose on top but made for a good purge of air) and after running for 5 min I was satisfied that I could jump in the shower and then check out.

After returning the tools, I noticed my oil was pretty black, (bout 4000 miles old at that point) and had a few small bubbles on it. So while in a wallymart parking lot I changed the oil, and from there everything seems good. Made it to cocoa beach loaded up a car then to Clearwater to deliver a transmission, then up to Franklin, TN to spend a day with my Aunt.

Along the way the only problem I seemed to have was that for about 30 minutes my transmission was having a problem getting into 3rd or 4th (OD?) just seemed like it didn't want to go. But after a few shifts into the highest gear while rolling downhill problem seemed to disappear. I'm off to buy coolant, distilled water, and a few gallons of ATF to do a flush and fill before I continue on my journey.

Thanks again to all that helped out, offered assistance, and to the guy that happened to be on his way by Saturday morning and offered to help if I had run into any problems.

Holy crap Bruce. I just saw your thread. I am real sorry bud. I was only an hour away from where you were at in Mims. I was away from my computer all weekend. The one weekend I don't log in to see what's going on and a fellow stroker is bouncing around in my back yard and needed help. Damn it, I feel real bad now. I am just glad you got everything cleared up. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask.
