My oil cooler is leaking and i found one locally that has been rebuilt that i wanna swing by and pick up so i can just remove the old and install the new then worry about rebuilding mine at a later date. I was just wondering if theres a good way to test or see if theres obvious problems with the cooler before i first buy it and secondly go about putting it on?

It is actually easier to rebuild yours than to replace. All you have to do is pull the rear housing off and leave the front in place, replace o rings and reinstall. There is a good video on YouTube, I did mine a couple of weeks ago and should take less than an hour.
