So I’ve been searching and reading through a whole bunch of posts here for the past 2 hours and none of them seem quite to match the issue I have with my 6.0L. I have a 2007 F250 with 68K miles stock with only a Magna Flow exaust and K&N filter and a couple of months ago it started smoking white smoke. I haven’t driven the truck much because I’m afraid to do more damage (I’m glad I own a motorcycle and live in California). The thing of it is it has no codes and the smoke is intermittent with no real pattern. Sometimes it smokes when it’s cold and sometimes it won’t regardless of outside temperature. It will smoke a little or a whole bunch or sometimes not at all. The power seems fine even when it is smoking although occasionally has a rough start when it's cold. It always goes away once the engine is warm. It does (and has for a while even before the smoke) loose coolant through the cap of the degas. I’m afraid it's the head gasket and haven’t taking it in yet because of it since I been told how much it will cost to fix. Is there a chance that it’s not the head gasket and I won’t have to spend thousands to fix it? Any advice on what else it could be?

Hey I'm just waiting for an answer too. I have an 07 with 57k and it does that on start up once in a while too. So just listening in. Thanks. When in CA are you? I'm in Simi Valley.

The first thing your going to hear is load test the batteries and then check the FICM. Then check the connections on the bottom of the FICM and the injectors and post up what you find. Best part is all of this stuff is free.

The next thing you're going to hear is ditch the K&N filter and go back to stock. The K&N has a bad rep on the 6.0.


Does anyone really care what I used to send this?

We are practically neighbors, I live in North Hills. Do you know any good mechanic in the Valley or by you I can have this checked by. Dont trust dealers!

Anyone has any ideas of what could be causing the issue?

Excuse my ignorance but how do I load test the batteries and check the FICM? The connections on the bottom I can figure out. I know nothing about diesel motors but know how to turn a wrench.

I don't. I have had warranty till now so it's only been to the dealer.. I'll look around though

You'll have to bring the truck in to a shop to test the batteries. Undo the cables to test them or the results won't be accurate, a good battery will compensate for a poor one because they are connected. They'll hook up a load tester to the batteries and put a load on them. If the charge drops too quick or the battery can't supply enough amperage it fails. Even if only one fails they both need to be replaced as the second battery has been compensating for the bad one and will start to fail soon. When that happens the new battery will be the one compensating and it will fail again.

You can pull the batteries out and any one who sell batteries will load test them for you. They should be charged prior to load testing.
