The problem i have with my alt is this.
- 13.1 volts is all i have ever seen on my truck. this is with a bullydog outlook monitor and verified with an high quality voltmeter.
- alternator is less than three months old and is a ford rebuild
- batteries are less than a year old and checked this week.
- within 5 minutes of the truck starting the alternator is so hot that if you would touch it you would burn your fingers.
- checked all grounds, did a voltage drop test on all wiring and drop was under .10 volts
- this last week the batt light comes on in the morning voltage is at 12.8-12.9 after ten to fifteen minutes of running voltage will come up to 13.1 and stay there until it sits over night
- amp test with headlights on high and ac and fan on max alternator output was 75 amps.
- i think with my tests that my alt is no good but would i like to know why voltage is not higher. more like 13.8-14.2. 13.1 in my books is a little low but that is all i have ever seen.
- and why is my alternator so hot?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
