I just spent 10,000 on a 05 F250 powerstroke with 252,000 MI I've already put a new FICM in it and IPR valve and the head gaskets just blue I've only had the truck 2 weeks supposed to be again in and drive hook a trailer up work everyday truck owned by a mechanic who said it was a daily driver for him for over a year with no problems but yet broke down on me within 6 days put two grand into it just got it back had it for 4 days and the head gaskets blue what should I do do the heads and head studs and Bulletproof the motor or get a reman motor or go after the guy I bought the truck from with the lawyer it sucks cuz I love the truck

Spent 10,000 on 05 F250 6.0 Powerstroke with EGR Delete cold air intake exhaust 5 in exhaust 8 in lift bought it for my tree company was supposed to be a daily driver from my personal mechanic I've known 20 years who said buy it hook up your trailer and drive it and work everyday no issues within 7 Days of buying the truck I had to put a new ficom in it and IPR valve and was given a list of things that needed to be fixed then spent $2,000 having that done got it back 4 days later head gaskets blew I have $252,000 miles need the truck for my company I spent everything I had getting this vehicle I love the power strokes don't get me wrong I knew what I was getting into but should I try and save the engine or just bite the bullet and let it go is it worth doing the heads and head studs and the entire bulletproof setup or buying a new engine or should I just kick it run

Can you start with how you know you have blown head gaskets?

What tests have you run?

Is the EGR cooler still installed in this engine (ie MAYBE, if you used freeze plugs to block off the cooler, the plugs rusted through)?

Also, please post a list of all the things done for the $2000 that you spent after the FICM and the IPR.

Either it is a huge coincidence this all happened a within a week, or it was already in a bad state mechanically and your mechanic friend of 20 yrs did you wrong on the recommendation.

If you spent all your money and it was a vehicle you needed for your business, I am sorry to say that unless you know the 6.0's in and out, this is not the greatest platform to take a chance on.

Take a breath and provide some info so people can give you some advice or solutions.

Good luck

Sorry to hear this. But unfortunately if you bought "as is" then there's not a lot of recourse there. That being said, do you have some knowledge about the 6.0 and are you mechanically inclined?
Why do you think the head gaskets are blown?

Hahahaha... @nicholsskyler1488 you wont get sympathy here.

-05 F250 powerstroke with 252,000
-need the truck for my company
-spent everything I had getting this vehicle
-I knew what I was getting into

If I were your mechanic I would quit, because my boss bought this for me without my input.
If the mechanic DID green light the truck I would let him fix it, or fire him. :ROFLMAO:

Keep flexing that cash my man, because people who buy junk will always have junk.
As a business owner who is responsible for employees you should know better.

FWIW I would have much more sympathy if you were a one man show trying to start.

Now tell us about yourself, how many trucks do you have?
Do you run equipment with 200k hours?
How old are your trailers?
When did you graduate high school?

If I had to take an educated guess, no. One of two scenarios is in my head. He bought it, tuned it (or it was tuned) and hot rodded the fk outta of it, towed while tuned and blew it up or his mechainc friend is an idiot with no conscience and flat out burned him.

Hard to believe the truck just "failed" in multiple systems all at once.

this is always the kiss of death:

truck owned by a mechanic who said it was a daily driver for him for over a year with no problems
there is a short list of mechanics who take care of their stuff.

So true, ...I think most of my vehicles are patched in one way or another -- too busy fixing other peoples junk

Just verified yesterday that I have combustion leaking into the coolant system
been chasing an odd sound , after light / moderate acceleration, since last summer
was looking at the air system, but not finding anything
anyways, pretty sure what I hear is the coolant cap blowing a tune as it releases the air

Wonder how much longer I can run before the head gasket finally blows out ?
If its only venting under load then pushed gaskets tend to last longer with limited towing.
I ran an 06 that "pushed" coolant under load and it never actually blew. I eventually fixed it but I was curious what would happen.
Just rinse the coolant off so it doesnt ruin other parts.

You should have the OP's mechanic give you advice :ROFLMAO:

(kidding)

I ran mine with blown HG's (or the preliminary) for years. As soon as I tuned it and pushed it a little hard, out came the coolant. If I left it in tow tune and towed, not one issue. Granted I towed a few times a year. Until finally one day the coolant started dripping out the left rear head, the truck pretty much told me 🖕, it is time.

A guy bought a company truck they were trading in from his work. The truck had 200,000 or so miles. He installed the Bully Dog tuner and of course set it to kill.....and it did. Didn't last the weekend.

Is this a backstory to this dilemma or just a similar story you're sharing?
I am guessing the OP opened up and decided he was not liking what he read. 👋
