Hello To everyone.
Let me please introduce my self
My name is Victor. Me and my girlfriend Caro, are a couple from Chile who came to Canada for a year with a working holiday visa. In 1,5 more month, we are going to start our dream, a trip from Alaska to Chile on a WVO 96 powerstroke camper truck.

We think this is the mos interesting way to do it, recycling and saving money.

Second, I would like to thanks everyone in this board, the information you guys provide is AMAZING. I have to say that 1 year ago I didn't know anything about diesel trucks, now Im working on my truck on a basic level, and understanding 100 times more how they work and how to fix and test a lot of things, saving me a lot of headaches, time and money.

Ok, and now the questions. :eek:hnoes:
We are going to convert the truck soon.
I ask an experienced person in WVO conversion here in Canada, to help us with this. We have the two tanks (we want to use one for the oil) and the control valve switch so, according to the mechanic, we just need a heated filter, hotplate, and fuel line, coolant line.
Unfortunately he got a new job so he doesn't have time to help any more or do the conversion...

Doing my own research I check that most of the powerstroke kits come wit an oil pump, and I ask him about this part. He sat we dont need the oil pump.:confused:

So my first question is: Do I need an oil pump for the conversion, yes/no and why?
Second. Im checking my options to buy the parts. WVO designs, plantdrive.ca, IS there anyone you can recommend?

Finally , the filtration system, We are going to filter on the road, so we think the best way is with a centrifuge. Any recommendations. I checked WVO RAW power and pabiodiesel centriguges.

Any feedback will be highly appreciated

Bio fuel technologies is what most will recommend.

Good luck. I live on the Alaska Highway in the Yukon.

just dont do anything major until you have looked at the BFT system known as the V4.
It is what I will be using when I get around to it.

How are you planning on getting through the 100 mile stretch near the panama/columbia border?
Is there even a road there?
I was checking into doing this a while back and that part of road was the major holdup.

Its call the Dariens Gap.
You can put your truck on a container and sent it to Colombia or ship it on a big boat with the RORO system.
Share the container with another car is the deal...
Its suppose that by the end of this year there's going to be a ferry service ... but who knows...

right on thanks, I looked into taking dirtbikes through there, but that was in the late 90's when columbia was a safer place!! Or I was younger and dumber I can't remember. haha

Definitely, I cant afford the v3 or v4...

I think if better to have some knowledge of the system you are going to install, in case something goes wrong, you can have an idea how to fix it, but in order to do a good DIY I need to research first...

So... any comments on the oil pump????? is a must???, can I skip this part on a OBS 96 powerstroke??? :popcorn:

I highly recomend converting the OBS stock fuel system to full elelctric fuel.
The other side, I would follow the DIY instructions per Ridiculouslynecessary's diagrams in the sticky on the top of this section.

Electric fuel is paramount in making a reliable and successful conversion on an OBS in my opinion.

I recomend Raw Power CF's or Simple Centrifuge. American made quality. The previously mentioned brand, NOT. (China produced and CHEAP)

Good luck on your quest. It is very ambitious.

yes DIY parts because if something breaks it will be easier to replace. On a different note I really do not think a guy that is from Chile and lives in Canada cares about anything being American made.

Maybe so, but I would think quality should be.

yes I have, I see it all the time in New Balance running shoes and Harley Davidson Motorcycles which are all assembled in USA but made in China.

Then buy chinese from Leon. Myself however, when given a chance to buy an American product (Absoluty Cf, Simple CF and others) I will EVERY G0D DAMN TIME. And I refuse to feel guilty for promoting AMERICAN MADE GOODS.

hey hey hey I'm not arguing. I have an absolute centrifuge and a v3. I was just making fun of Harley and New Balance because everyone thinks they are 100% american.

I think is the best to do, change the stock for electric...
For filtering I think raw power with the heater is the best option.
Im going to take a look to the DIY post

I care about quality/price and when I dont know.... well Im ask, like now...

Chinese products have bad reputation an American products have good reputation, but Im sure you can find good things made in CHina (like Arcteryx gear) and rubbish products :D

that is an example of the quality of cast aluminum chinese made rotors. How long will a motor last when out of balance, one might ask..I dont know the answer. But I do know I like my wheels and tires "balanced".
