I have an '01 psd excursion, 115k miles.

Truck was fine on Sunday, parked it after a 120 mile ride.
Today it started, and warmed up for a few minutes. hopped in and started down the road, it lacked power, but I figured it needed to run a little. Went about 2 miles total then died, no dash lights, just dead. Like it is out of fuel. I got it restarted and back home, at home I let it idle and it died again after a minute. Fuel filter was dirty, although only about 15k miles on it. I replaced it. Truck started right up, down the road again, lacked power again so I came home. I need to me in MD all week so I need help FAST!

Got a pending code out of it, P1211, ICP beyond desired. I searched the forum and man there are a lot of potential causes. Anyone have a troubleshoot flowchart, by $$ starting with my labor?

I'd start by swapping the CPS with my spare.
If that didn't work then I'd go on to things like watching the fuel pressure with a gauge and/or hooking my scanner up and watching all the various sensors.

I highly recommend the intank and prepump filter mods to any 99-03 PSD so it would be a good idea to drop the tank and do the mods anyway and while your there you can check it out. Only cost me $35 and a few hours to do mine. Here are the pics I took Shutterfly | View Shared Pictures

Pullin the tank this AM, in the fuchin rain no less!!

I could not find any stainless tubing yesterday and need my truck to go to MD for work all next week so I am just going to pull the tank, clean it out, and clean the mixing unit then re-assemble. I am going to cut down the vent tubes too, just not the hutch mod(at this time) Hopefully that will do it.

Nice pics btw

I had the same problem in my 02...I started by checking the solenoid that powers the Glow plugs (on top of the motor beside the fuel filter housing). Sure enough, It wasn't popping when I turned the key on. I tried replacing the solenoid with a starter solenoid for a 74 ford 460. No luck. I moved on to testing the original solenoid by hand by placing a hot wire and a ground wire on the two small posts. It worked just fine. I tested the continuity of wire going from the PCM to the solenoid. I found the correct wire by starting on one end of the wire cluster that plugs into the PCM and working my way to the other end. Luckily it was the 5th one that I tried. The continuity wasn't broken and I knew that I had a PCM problem. So I installed a small momentary switch (one that turns off after my finger leaves it, like a starter switch) under the dash until I can afford the 600 dollar PCM. Runs beautifully now that the Glow plugs are working.
