Anyone know what could cause a burnt rubber smell with the 6.4's. I'm not talking about burnouts.

When I first got my truck I would occasionally get a burning rubber smell. Most likely it's caused by the heat from the regen cycle the first few times it happens. Can't be positive but that is what causes the most heat from these trucks.

I will give this a shot, my 06 6L & both of my 08 6.4 L,s had a burnt rubber smell, after checking all over the engine on all 3 trucks there were large rubber bands lying on the turbo, turbo,s after removing them, the smell went away. There were rubber bands all over the place on my 06 - maybe auxiliary power :)

Now that I think about it I got them hanging all over underneath my truck. I pulled off at least 5 when I was working on my gooseneck hitch. And I saw more hanging from the tranny and engine compartment.
