Recently when driving ive been noticing on moderate acceleration and cruising speed with turbo spooled a surging from turbo/exhaust. Sounds as if variable veins in turbo are opening/closing slightly. Some noticable surging can be felt. However no noticable variation in engine RPM on the tach. Im about to take it to the dealer just want to know what to expect/try to scam out of my ext warranty....any advice would be great.

the vanes on the turbo are probably stuck, there is a write up on the org some place so you can do it yourself and save some money

Yeah I was thinking the vanes too...I am a Mercedes Benz tech and our diesels have similiar turbos...I know the 6.0 turbos are very problematic as a few buddies of mine have had numerous ones.

Anyone else with any different ideas???

It's unlikely to be anything else. The VGT solenoid doesn't stick; It is commanded to a certain position and it responds. Sticking vanes on the VGT are the only thing that would cause surging (on the air side).

Thanks for the link on cleaning! I am sure it will come in handy later on when I have no type of warranty left...currently I have a ext warranty and a tech at a Ford dealer that I am gonna visit tomorrow and hopefully just get it replaced! New is always better! I know what your sayin about the sticking vanes...at Benz its instant replacement and old unit sent to Germany for R&D. Hopefully Ford is the same way...
