I was asked what kind of symptoms my truck had BEFORE I switched to this oil. Here it is. There is also a small little paragraph at the bottom of this edit that shows how I'm maintaining my injectors.

Another thing to mention. Some people have had their stiction fixed almost immediately. Others it took almost 500 miles of driving and some others less. What I am saying is that after you switch to this oil, you must DRIVE the truck. Imagine it this way. When you polish metal that is need of a polish, it just doesn't MAGICALLY shine. Sometimes you have to work it with a little elbow grease and sometimes you really have to get into it. Imagine the T5 is metal polish and your engine needs to be polished. Some engines will be quick while others will need a buffing wheel. Give the oil a chance to get in there and clean out the old crud before stating it doesn't work.

Here is a list of people who swapped to this oil and their thoughts/opinions. There are MANY users so this is just a small list.

Before I used this oil, on cold morning my truck would be a total PITA to start. When it did start, I would have to let it sit and idle for 5-10 minutes before leaving. I actually had another set of keys made so that I could get up, go to the truck, start the truck, lock the doors and go back inside to get ready for work.

When it did start it would run REALLY REALLY rough. The entire truck would shake. It would sound absolutely HORRIBLE and on a few occasions it would stall and I'd have to start it again. Sometimes even after that it would again stall. I never had her stall on me more than twice though. When it got warm enough for me to drive, she would have minimal power and the power would gradually grow as the engine warmed up. Then it was smooth sailing.

Now this isn't just on cold temp mornings, this also happened when it was fairly warm outside (80ish) and it would STILL do this though not as bad.

Once I change my oil I never had this problem again. And that is all I did. No Rev-X or other types of oil additives.

Things I do to ensure that my injectors stay clean is check my oil every so often for signs of metal or just the quality of the oil and the quantity. I also run Cetane booster through every tank. I keep the oil filter and the fuel filters changed also.

------------------------------------------

I will continue to use this and I will increase my interval to 7500 for the next oil change.

I love this oil and it solved my cold start rough idle. It also likely increased my hp/tq by a small amount due to the decreased friction in the engine and increased lubrication. I can't state for sure on how much MPG I gained by switching to this oil but I routinely get about 23-24mpg on the interstate at 74mph indicated (about 70-71mph on the GPS). I average between 15-18mpg around town.

I apologize for the crappy quality but photobucket dulls down the picture size so I had to do the best I could. I am willing to upload it to another site. I have a high quality picture saved to my computer.

The oil report reads as follows:
"Brandon, the PSD that powers your F-250 is wearing nicely at 123.337 miles. Our universal analysis shows typical wear from the 6.0L after an oil run of ~5,000 miles. Your oil was run just a little longer than that but we think you could easily push up to 7,500 miles on your next fill. The oil was in good shape physically and contained no harmful contaminants. The TBN was still fairly strong at 4.9 so there was still a bit of active additive left. 1.0 is a low TBN. You've clearly been taking good care of this engine. We see no signs of any problems developing."

I believe that my truck is one in a few as the unit/location averages are exactly what I have which tells me, there is nothing else to average it against.

Properties:

-------------------------------------------------Values should be...
SUS Viscosity at 210ºF:------61.2----------------------59-65
cSi Viscosity at 100ºC:-------10.57--------------------9.9-11.9

TBN:--------------------------4.9---------------------n/a
TAN:--------------------------n/a--------------------n/a
ISO Code:---------------------n/a--------------------n/a

According to a SUS and cSi viscosity chart, my oil is damn near perfect at 30wt so my 6.0 did not shear my oil at all. The TBN is still fairly high at 4.9 so I can pull more miles out of my oil and I will.

I beat on my truck normally and just blow everything out from time to time. I burned little/no oil during my 5,500 miles. I didn't add a drop between changes and I pulled out right at 15qts. I filled a 15qt container to the brim when I changed my oil.

This is REALLY good news. :thumb:

Ford states in the manual that 10w-30 oil can be used but it is not recommended for trucks that tow a lot. I don't. However, since the 6.0 shears down the 40wt to 30wt anyway, I am curious to see a truck towing with this oil and getting the report.

Shell Rotella T5 10w-30 is in fact a DIESEL OIL. It has the CJ-4 Spec code on the back and from the information I've gathered is a really good spec to have.

If you have any questions/thoughts/concerns, please either post here or PM me.

Also if you change your oil to this and it cures a problem your truck has had, please post up here or let me know in some way. I'm trying to see just how many different problems this oil is helping to fix.

Below is RoadRunner 's scan of his oil. Notice his distance traveled! Also to make sure...

THIS IS ON JOHN DEERE OIL.

Too bad he didn't get a TBN report to see how much additive was left.

the report came back acceptable and oil and filter was changed at the time of the sample, with 10w-30.
this will be my 4th consectitive run of 10w-30 and every sample has came back almost identical.

T5 after 8,000 MILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, I was just advised to go to 10k. I think that is what the amsoil guys are runnin to. Pretty good for oil that is $11.50/gal.

i'm running 10w-30 also(deere plus 50) with almost the exact results, excellent.
i have always run out to 7,500mi per oci, and my local dealer has a large stock of the CI-4 left-over i have been using in not only my 6.0, but also two idi 7.3's.
at 11 bucks a gallon you can't beat the uoa's.

in my above post i stated it is CI-4, which is diesel motor oil.
almost if not all major oil companies offer a 10w-30 diesel oil, and yes its in the owners manual.
it seems some motor oil is more prone to shear in the 6.0 than others, and the 10w-30 will hardly shear at all, almost if they prefer it. when i was running 15w-40 yet, it would shear, but not out of grade like the rts did.
the two runs of rts 5w-40 sheared to 10.6 cst a mid 30wt., where the 15w-40 deere plus 50 sheared to 12.8cst after 7,500 mi, still well within 40wt. grade.
so after several uoa's i came to the conclusion why should i spend 20 bucks a gallon on the rts when after a 7,500 mi. run it was only a 30wt? now i spend 11 bucks a gallon for a 30wt. and after 7,500mi. i drain out a 30wt., with lower wear numbers, and a little bit more money in my wallet

Rotella T-5 is the 10w-30 DIESEL OIL offered. It is diesel oil.

I am not quite sure on where the "sheer" is on my report and I can cut an e-mail to blackstone to help clarify any sheering, but the viscosity reported in the report above reads as follows:

SUS Viscosity @ 210ºF - 61.2. Values should be between 59-65.

So I'm within this range.

cSt viscosity @ 100ºC - 10.57. Values should be between 9.9-11.9.

I'm also within this range.

Viscosity Charts

The above link has the SUS viscosity chart. According to it, at 210ºF, my oil is sheered at exactly the right level of 30wt.

My cSt range is also exactly at a 30wt.

So there you have it. NO sheering whatsoever.

This does cost me a pretty penny when I change my oil. Almost $80 per oil change. However, this report will be saving me money as I will now be extending my oil changes another 2,500 miles. I am also running my engine WELL with this oil.

The owners manual states that I can use this grade of oil for what I do, which is mainly haul things occasionally and just basically use this is my own personal back/forth to/from work.

The owners manual also states that trucks that routinely haul should use 15w-40.

Another couple of GOOD things to report with this oil.

1. I am burning absolutely ZERO oil. I drained 15qts when I drained my oil and I didn't add a single drop throughout all this time.

2. My mileage is pretty good. I got 22-23mpg on the interstate during a recent trip to Savannah, GA.

3. My average around town and back/forth to/from work mileage is 16-18mpg.

4. I had HORRIBLE stiction before I switched to this oil. I now have absolutely zero stiction and I never had to use the oil additive I see referred to on this site.

5. It's available at my wal-mart for about $16 a gallon. 4 qts = 1 gallon so $64 for 16 qts. I have 1 qt spare to keep between changes. I also buy the motorcraft filter available at my wal-mart for $18. 64+18= $82 spent. I consider this a good investment to maintain this AWESOME engine.

Shoot me any questions you may have.

The T-5 I'm using is a synthetic blend so no, it is not a full synthetic.

I believe the motorcraft oil is just regular dino oil.

My truck isn't stock. But it's not heavily modified either.

K&N Cold air intake.
Deleted Cat.
Deleted muffler.
Coolant Filter.
Cat ELC coolant.
Diesel Kleen cetane booster every tank.

And a few other cosmetic mods.
