Okay, I am planning to delete my 6.0 and I was wondering... (I know this is old news)

I've heard the engine light comes on which isn't a big deal, but I was wondering if I delete the cooler (using the steel plates and welding them in) what would the side effects be? What would happen with the EGR valve?

If I wanted to get a programmer/tuner/monitor what is the best way to go. I don't want to hot rod it or anything just looking for best power range and possible engine light fix with the programmer.

Any info is helpful thanks

Well the best way to go for a tune is going to be a custom tune specifically made for your truck you will get more preformance and saftey out of a custom tune vs the stocked canned tunes. As for tuner it is universally agreed upon that sct is going to be the best you can get. I have had experience ance with multiple tuners and the sct has been the best by far. I do believe the sct x4 can turn off the check engine light if programmed correctly. As for the egr valve when welded I do believe it will move still abd try to direct airflow which could block the exhaust system. I know that again custom programming can disable it but the best route is just to spend the extra money and get a complete kit. It will last just as long and you will not have to worry about the valve anymore because it will be deleted. Good luck on your build and if you have any questions feel free to ask im sure lots of people can chip in with an opinion on this.😂

if you weld the EGR valve it won't move but a spool is better imo

also having a CEL is a big deal since it will be illuminated for the egr and it won't notify you of any other issues since it is already lit

First off thanks for the responses. I have some more understanding now. I didn’t know that having a CEL code lit up wouldn’t allow for more codes to additionally show up.
With the EGR valve would it be better to buy a spool and “plug it” I think is the correct terminology. Or would it be better to go with the sct with custom tunes and program the code to go away? Or buy the spool and programmer? Thanks

you can pull the plug on the EGR valve and see if you get a CEL
if you get a CEL it would be advantageous to have a programmer block this code from setting the CEL and then if you do have another issue down the road the CEL can alert you

( I just went thru this myself ,, I had some bad glow plugs and they set the CEL I ignored them for a year but then I had another issue that went unnoticed because the CEL can't alert you twice

the spool is the best IMO I cut the EGR valve off and mounted the housing to the spool

What is the spool?

ZMANN, you have any pics of that? My EGR valve is just zip-tied to the fuel filter housing since I run a spool. I'd like to clean it up a bit.
no real need for a picture ,,you can't tell mine is not factory i removed the spool retainers and use the flat bottom EGR valve to hold the spool in place passes visual inspection also

just cut off the vavle and cage with a angle grinder and thin wheel and put it to a belt sander to get it the rest of the way flat
slid what was left of the valve stem out of the can and bolted it onto of the spool using OEM bolts

A spool with an EGR valve hat, I like it
I bolt mine to the intake elbow since it has to go back in every other year to satisfy the smog natzis

What does the spool do that just capping the egr hole off? I am deleted, but other than plugging the hole so the egr cooler won't flow, is there a point behind this? Also, do you have to keep the egr plugged in still or can it be tossed in the parts drawer?
(sorry, first I've heard of the plug)

the EGR valve remaining plugged in even if you have a spool prevents the chance of E fan clutch performance issues (on some strategies)

speaking for those of us who still have the EGR cooler in place ( I had to for years and still do thanks to once a year ,, just recently I found a workaround so it will be welded up soon )
the EGR Valves can be forced open under some conditions but even a welded EGR valve is more restrictive than the spool so thats why some of us opted to remove it in favor of billet.

if your EGR cooler is blocked off then a plate at the EGR valve is likely just fine

I would still make a "plate" or "hat" out of the EGR valve for stealth
