Here are some pictures of my cylinder walls. This is a March 2004 build date. Can this be saved inside the truck? I can for sure feel the pits. Thanks for looking

Hard to tell as pics do not show the whole story. Seems like some of your pistons are eaten up around the perimeter but it could just be carbon/oil giving that appearance. If it were mine, and the pistons and cylinders have pits and deterioration, I would tear it down and bore it .010" over with a fresh set of pistons/rings as well as a new set of lifters. Good luck to you!

Pitting from rust. Overbore, and a cam with those lifters.
Thanks guys. Yeah I'm pulling it out this weekend. Going to suck as the truck is on a 10 inch lift with 40s. Gotta be done though. Going to have the machine shop evaluate the cam. Should I replace the lifters? The guy at the machine shop does not think the cam will need to be replaced since the lifters are roller. Also, buying a set of reman oem oringed heads from kdd. Should I get the 6.4 pushrods?
Busted EGR cooler will do that -- coolant when burned will cause pitting -- should be on the heads to match the pitting in the cylinders
Why are the heads off in the first place?

Gasket was externally leaking. Bought the truck crank no start. It was at a price where a new engine would still be at a good deal. Wheels and tires are worth what I paid. It's been deleted for its whole life apparently. Black onyx gaskets were used when they "bulletproofed" it. I believe it just had water sitting in the cylinders. Took the heads off and the gasket was torn to pieces. Have oringed heads, oem gaskets, new oil cooler, late model hpop, 6.4 push rods, the list goes on. Getting it right. Just pulled the lifters to find the cam destroyed by one of them. Lile metal had gotten in between it and the lifter making dents. Getting it bored and short block rebuilt now. Should be a brand new truck after this.

That doesn't speak of PS 6.0L experience.

Bringing back memories - Early on everyone insisting that, simply because they were also from Mahle (Victor Reinz) that the Black Onyx had to be the same as the OEM gaskets - just not blue.

I'm surprised that an engine with those gaskets could still be around - well sort of anyway.
Ok. This project has gone from possible head gaskets to eliminating any possible weak point with the platform. The main difficulty of this project is finding heads. Why is it that my cylinder head options are all Chinese? I like nothing about the idea of Chinese heads riding on my block. Are there any usa castings besides the kdd icon?
Here are some pics of us ripping it out.

You lifted the engine over the grille and radiator??
A few people do that. It was one of the selling points of the older lifting bracket sold on eBay. It's a bit high for me, but ....
Over grill, ac condenser, and trans cooler. Yes. Wheels are off because the tires are 40 inches tall so I lowered it by taking them off.

I think just pop the grill off and pull the condenser would be my choice
Very cool. This way would be my choice. Anybody have any idea how to get American heads? Ficmrepair has heads ready but they are straight out of China. Ed swears that if I use 18mm Ford heads like ones done by kdd or ucf, that I'll have issues in no time.
I live in a neighborhood full of subarus and prius, and have 3 lifted diesel trucks parked in front of my house. My neighbors already hate me so I try to keep the front of the truck together as much as I can so I don't get letters from the hoa.

KDD does not redo Ford heads, they have their own new castings
