I have just purchased a 97 250 4X4 7.3l and my 4X4 will not engage. I have looked into a few things and now need help. When shifted into 4X4 the front driveshaft does turn while moving in forward and reverse. I then pulled the hubs (both sides) off to see they are both in what seams to be great condition. The grease looked brand-new with no moisture present. So I reassembled and retested with zero results. I am hoping one of you could direct me in the right direction. Also could I pull the manual locking hubs off of my 95 250 5.8l, meaning are they the bolt on parts? This way I could get away from the a alegid horrible auto locking hubs.

Thanks

why not manually locking your auto hubs ?
OBS does not have that option like some of the superdutys do.

If you have auto locking hubs with the engine off and transfer case in neutral rotate the front driveshaft by hand and listen for the hubs to click and engage. It is possible one side is working and not the other or both of them have been torn up. If your 95 has a TTB 50 front axle like you 97 does then you can swap them.
