when i put my shifter in 1st its in 2nd gear then when i put it in 2nd its in 1st gear ???

Sounds like you need a new MPLS.

Multi Position Lever Sensor It's the black box on the driver side of the transmission that interfaces between the selector and the transmission. I can't think of anything else that could mix up the gears like that.
