I was just reading about someone else who is getting a new engine due to this and was told by Ford CS that they get a 3 year unlimited mile warranty on the new engine. I hadn't heard this before but if true, that is a little peace of mind. That's exactly what happened to mine according to the mechanic at the dealership. I've been living in ignorant bliss just assuming this new engine is the equivalent of the old 7.3 which is still running great at over 320,000 miles and 16 years. Now that my confidence is shaken a bit, your post is good to hear.
Can't take credit for this part but the problem is not broken glow plugs falling into the motor destroying them, it is Valve Seats that is the problem which can cause the glow plug to break. It is not the glow plug itself... big misconception out there.
See post 7 for info so proper credit is given. This is also the person that was told they get a 3 yr warranty on the motor.
