Hi All,

I jumped in my truck this morning and put my foot on the brake to shift into R.
I got the 'service AdvanceTrac' and 'hill control error' on the message centre.

The real kicker is it won't shift out of park either. Truck was running/driving fine last night.

I plugged in my VCM and scanned the braking systems (including ABS) and it came up with an error code " brake pedal switch A- actuator stuck open".

Went to the dealer and picked up the pedal switch that controls the park interlock and brake lights, but there was no change. I cleared the codes again, but got the same **** as soon as I pressed on the brake pedal.

After the warning chimes and messages finish doing their thing, the little car skidding symbol stays lit, and the two buttons for AdvanceTrac/hill descent don't do anything when pushed.

Now, I would suspect a wheel speed sensor, but after reading through most of the forums, this situation seems different because of the locked up shifter.

I want to mention that about a week ago, my minimaxx decided to quit. It just plain doesn't turn on at all. Tried hooking it up to computers and all that, but no change. The reason that I mention this is that when I uploaded the original tune to the truck, I saw those same error messages a few times on the dash during the process.

The truck seems to run and idle fine, but I have this suspicion that the tuner ****ting the bed has something to do with it.

Anyone ever seen this before? The pic is from the VCM scan.

Thanks guys,

Jay

Trying this

Going to try manually moving the mechanical plunger on the base of the shifter lever today.

Been through the workshop manual ad-nauseum, and can run a bunch of pinpoint tests to see if there is an interruption in power someplace.

Will update as I go

Solved

So posting this is for anyone who might encounter this same issue..

Turns out that all of the above was caused by a wire that was internally corroded. This wire ran from the BCM to the brake pedal switch, but not how you might think. It is routed back along the passenger sill panel, does a 90 degree turn toward the drivers side, and then goes through the sill panel on the drivers side, and then on up to the brake pedal switch.

The damaged wire had no signs of external damage at all, and was still factory taped up in the bundle.

My tech say that he has seen another 2011 with the same issue.

So that interruption in power caused the Advancetrac, hill descent and ABS systems to fail, not forgetting the brake lights too.

I have to admit that I did not expect to be looking for an internally broken wire in an untouched factory harness that would bring down so many systems at once.
