So I recently just bought this 2009 6.4, only 140k. She is a beauty. It has the H&S minimaxx on it but only have it set on stock since i have the DPF deleted. I watch my temps and what not regularly. Anyways I went out the other morn to warm her up about 4:45 am. Outside temp was about 42deg F. Well I went back in the get ready to work and it warmed up for bout 20 min. Plenty of time to get up to operating temp. When I got back in the truck there was no heat blowing from the vents. The temps were fine in the dash, nothing over heating. New to this truck I figured maybe it needed to warm up a little longer. I drove to work, about 30 min. Had very minimal heat coming out, if it wasnt for the seat warmers I woulda turned around to get a bigger jacket. I came outside from work at 6 that afternoon and there was a small coolant leak from the front driver side. Nothing too large but it was noticeable. The coolant wasnt comin from the block, I couldnt tell where exactly it was coming from because I had a buddy tell me it was prob heads. I am still without heat and have no idea where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The damper does work behind the dash. Like I said I am not sure if it is thermostats bc the truck does not overheat. Im stuck and its about to get real cold and need my heat.

Please help. :frown2:

If coolant level is way low, you will lose heat.
Fix the leak. There are at least a half dozen places they can leak on the drivers side.

Upper rad hose connection at engine
Lower rad hose connection at engine
Hose that clips into bottom of degas bottle
One or more of the four egr cooler coolant hose clamps
Front cover
Radiator

Those are the more common spots on a 6.4.
Get it sorted quick. Running low on coolant with these engines can cause cavitation to the front cover. Which will be a much more messy, painful repair

Start by checking coolant level and finding/repairing the coolant leak. If its low on coolant it probably got air in the heater core.

Thanks for the quick response yall. My coolant levels are fine. I have checked those and that is what is leaving me baffled. I have not had anymore leaks, just 2 days of minor ones. Both were on colder days, but since my coolant level is well above the "low" line, its not making sense to me.

As far as the no heat.....What kind of climate control do you have....Electronic or manual......Could be your temp blend door that's faulty.
If you have standard heat control, down by the floor right in the middle look/reach under the dash and find a white stem approx 1" in dia. put your hand on that and turn the heat control from cold to hot and back. If it moves, the blend door is good, if it doesn't move it could be the blend door. That actuator can be replaced by removing the radio & pass air bag, it's a pita but better than letting Ford pull the whole dash.
It's either air in the coolant or temp blend door so you don't have many places to look, good luck

Hey guys, thanks again. I have the electronic thermostat style. I thought about the blender door and it being locked, but once I rise above 72 degrees towards heat I can hear the actuator moving. Now I am not saying that it isnt spinning and the gears/belt (not sure which) is stripped or fallen off, but I do hear something.

One other possibility is a plugged heater core. If you get the engine to temp, crank the heat, pop the hood and feel on the heater core inlet and outlet hoses. They should be roughly the same temp. If one is significantly cooler, the core is plugged

Or air locked

Guys I have another issue ( I think ) that is going on with my truck. My coolant temp on my H&S minimaxx reads 190-195 (highest I have seen is 202) but my oil temp will run about 230 (worst I have seen is 250, this is when coolant was around 202). Now what is weird is when my oil temp was around the 250 my heat started getting warmer. Now I am no expert but I do have a mechanical engineering degree and did stay at a holiday inn last night and do not see any correlation between the oil temp effecting the heat. Ive read a lot on here that the delta T should be around 10 degrees. Now 50 degrees is pretty serious. What would be yalls first issue that pops into mind? Is my oil cooler bad? Could it be heads? I havent had any more coolant leaks since about 3-4 days ago. It happened the first time which I stated in the original post and then a day later but it was very minimal. Thanks in advance. yall are great.

LMAO, didn't they tell you, nothing cheap about a 6.4? (I did that right before I traded mine for a 6.0) Just money right?

So I had my truck in the shop...they called me bout an hour ago and they told me I have 3 issues. 1) busted radiator 2) Upper AND Lower radiator hose leaks 3) bad Tstat.

Now my plan is to go ahead and go aftermarket with my radiator. I do not want to spend upwards of $500 for an OEM and have the same thing happen down the road. I have done some research and 99% are saying mishimoto. Now for my hoses, a buddy of mine who is a diesel mechanic says he puts Mishimoto silicon hoses on his trucks. Thats $500 for 3 damn hoses. What do yall think about hoses? The Tstat I will prob go Mishi as well just for their warranty. I found the high temp tstat for $74.

I also had this issue posted on a 6.4 FB group and this one fella told me to go with Motocraft hoses because they have 2 O rings instead of one like mishi.. and while I am at it replace my water pump.

Can I get yalls opinions on this?

Oh yea FORD Stealership wanted $1950 plus tax...and thats with the Tstat being under my aftermarket warranty. They said the total cost/labor/instal would be around $475 but I would only pay $150 bc my deductible. your chittin me right.

brb going to throw up.

Go OEM for all of it. It's been pretty well documented that the oem and rads with plastic tanks last longer than the all aluminum rads. Especially if you do any offroading. Also the updated hoses have proven to be very reliable and there's no reason to spend 5x as much on the Mishi. Stats are fine either way.

Diesels are cold blooded, but if you weren't having much after a little drive you probably have air in the system. You could try an air lift or park the front of the truck up in the air and take the degas cap off and let the coolant cycle.

thanks @Lipka101. Love your color. What window visors are you running? Goina ask santa for some lol. (also idk if I am tagging you right, somewhat new to the forums but I do appreciate everyones help)
Thanks. Not sure on the visors. Haven't even looked at them as they were on the truck when I bought it.

nosir I didnt have any heat what so ever, I take that back....cold side of luke warm air. My drive in is about 30 min and I always let my vehicles warm up 10-12 min esp in the colder mornings. I dont know if it is air or not but this is my first diesel and dammit if its not leavin a taste in my mouth. I was warned about these 6.4s being hit or miss. I hope I didnt get the Hit.... I am taking it to Zach Pierce Diesels (ZPD) has one of the fasted 7.3s on the east coast they said. Ford Guru, so I am going to just let him take it and fix it. Perfect time in Christmas but then again when is a good time for a vehicle to shyt on you.
