Some assembly required:

Bought this one about 39 years ago from the original owner. Spotted it in an empty lot in Phoenix, AZ with a matching 1959 3/4 ton long bed stepside. Found the owner, said how much for the panel. He said I had to take both. $300. "Each?" "No. For both." So I pulled the engine and trans from the wife's 72 Chevelle that had recently lost a tie rod end and went into the Jersey wall on the freeway. Should have kept that one. Put the engine/trans into the 3/4 ton and sold/traded it for a 67 Baja Bug, metallic black with flames. Then I took the body off the frame of the panel, cleaned the frame with a drill and sanding attachement and lye to remove rust, and disassemble every nut and bolt and even seperated the leaf springs and painted everything silver. I know, I was young and dumb. Rebuilt the leaf spring bushings and shackles, king pin bushings, and new master and wheel cylinders, shoes, drums and hardware and bent up new brake lines. This was back when you could go to NAPA and get these parts the same day because they were in stock. Then I bought a 4 bolt main block and built my very first engine, 350, .030 over, .010/.010 crank with 64 cc chamber heads and flat top forged pistons. Welded up my own custom receiver hitch, bought a 1966 26 foot Airstream trailer and moved to Los Angeles, eventually. Engine did great backed by a turbo 400 and original diff, until we got to San Bernadino mountains. Started pinging and knocking and overheated. The nice white paint on the new headers caught fire and the headers were glowiing. Pulled over and waited for it to cool down. Made it to L.A. slowly. The high compression heads worked fine in Phoenix flat lands and I suspect the gas is/was formulated differently for hot desert temps. Living in L.A. I used to have to go the Burbank airport and buy Aviation Fuel to add, then later found out I could add moth balls to the gas tank to raise the octane. Ahh, the lessons of youth. So years later, moved to Malibu, in the hills, not the beach, and cut the frame off and welded in a front clip from a 1970 Camaro for power disc brakes, independent suspension and power steering all in one shot. I got this idea from a magazine article, back when magazines were a thing, in Truckin'. Remember that one? The two inch wide drum brakes were no match for all my tools loaded in the panel and the hills above Malibu. I would have to take a SLOOOOW right turn onto Pacific Coast Hwy coming down because the brakes were so hot I could not stop. Now the frame is boxed, powder coated semi-gloss BLACK, and a 454 with 4L80E and a Ford 9 inch with disc brakes. Under going full restoration as I am writing this. Color will be original turquoise blue.
