My friends 2003 suddenly started blowin blue smoke, the engine compartment and definately the exhaust smell of burned oil and seemed hot. He checked the oil level in the crankcase which was full, he says the truck actually seems to run normally. Any ideas? I was wondering if he may have a bad injector o-ring. He was going to run a scan on it to see what codes it may have thrown. Any ideas?

7.3 based off of the forum it's in.

Blue smoke = Oil. I would agree with the O ring statement.

smokin out

Is it blue or is it black smoke, is it on hard accel? Black smoke is possibly EGR vavle, could be seal in turbo or a couple of differnt sensors. If I had to guess I would say EGR, that is the most common, but again not really enough info.

realize i wasn't there, this is what he relayed to me, he claimed it was under normal driving, but he was pulling an enclosed 16 foot trailer that was empty. He began smelling and then seeing blue smoke when he was making a left hand turn. so i dunno...
