i have a 2001 f250 w/ 7.3l. turbo won't spool up unless i put the pedal to the floor. i am not getting the greatest fuel mileage about 12-13 mpg(summer). is this a turbo problem, fuel supply problem, or injector problem?

should the turbo spool up when accelerating normally? also, when i start going up a hill (w/no trailer) instead of the turbo spooling, the truck will downshift and then the turbo will spool.

I'm assuming you don't have gauges, and do not know what the turbo is pushing for boost?

I would start by checking your up pipes and intercooler boots for leaks, and physically remove the intake at the turbo and check the wheel for damage, and the shaft for play. It should spin freely and not move up/down/side-to-side very much.

the only gauge i have is the boost gauge w/ exhaust temp. when i do get the turbo to spool i can only get about 16-18lbs.

Have you checked for boost leaks (cold air and up pipes), checked your fuel pressure, filter(s) plugged?
