I don't know actually, but I thought it was fairly straight forward. Pull the glow plugs and use that hole for the gauge. Disable the pcm like pull fuse under dash and have batteries connected to a charger.

Just did mine for the first time week ago. Disconnect main engine harness @ driver side vc. Pull all gp. I had to make an adapter out of a gp that worked fine with a $30 harbor freight compression test kit. 400-425 psi spec. Remember to account for altitude as I'm @5k. Attach battery charger. Use same # of cranks for each hole. I just jumped the starter at the solenoid instead of using the key. I found #7 only made 25psi. Removed rocker arms on #7. Taped valves to make sure they were loose which I could see anyway while cranking. Did a leak down with the rockers off and the cyl wouldn't hold anything. as the shop air went down into block. I pulled the head and suspect broken ring on #7 there were a cpl gouges in the cylinder almost to the top of the carbon line.

Curious what symptoms pushed you to do a compression test?

I am suspecting a burnt valve in mine as I don't seem to have excessive blow by but I have a funny (intermittent which is odd) misfire but also a little bit of a spit/hiss at the tailpipe.

I have been considering getting a compression gauge set up.

Mines always been a cold natured sob. Started it and it kept a "miss" like it was still cold even after warmed up and was white smoking a bit out the tail pipe. Drove it maybe 15-20 miles. Found no codes. Remove the oil fill cap and puff, puff, puff with pressure blowby. Enough to actually lift the cap off the fill neck. Knew that wasn't good so cut the oil filter first but found no iron or alum. Then did a compression test on all cyl. Did a leak down on very low compression cyl. Pulled the head. Cyl had a cpl gouges like what a broke ring would do.

Copy that. I haven't made the effort to chase mine yet but I don't believe I have a bottom end issue.

I do like to hear reports of symptoms and discoveries though, to further understand as much as I can. Thanks!

Great info, thank you both! I was wanting to do a test sort of "just because"...with the rational reasons you had and the work required I'll just keep not of how you've done it.
