So this might be a stupid question, I still consider myself a newbie when it comes to diesels, but I've noticed my truck, 1997 F-250 powerstroke/225k miles, never smokes at all, i've only seen it smoke when starting a burnout (barely any smoke) pulling a trailer at high elevation, or flooring it at high elevation. It also seems to run hot all the time, going constant highway speed will have the pyro at around 800-850. I was thinking if its running too lean it could cause it to run hotter. Is there an easy way to adjust fuel flow? or could it be a clogged hose? or am i just assuming things and this is normal? the truck was abused when it was stolen from us a few years back, so it cold possibly be an injection problem. please respond

diesels don't really run "lean". my truck didnt smoke at all until I got tunes. you could bring down the EGTs with a straight pipe and a intake

I have the exhaust off right now, just the downpipe is connected, and it is programed for low end torque. It's never smoked. I've seen completely stock trucks smoke at least a little bit. I think it also has a bigger exhaust, the downpipe seems thicker than a stock one.

Is your down pipe round or oval? Mine has 120cc injectors and won't smoke without a tune on it, my last 97 smoked just a bit with stock 90cc injectors, but I have 290k on mine.
