I asked this elsewhere, but no response, and I saw the thread on here that it's been done kind of along the lines I have in mind.

I have the 6 cd audiophile system, with the steering wheel controls, electronic air, etc. Lariat pretty much fully loaded except for nav.

What I'd like to do:
Add a 2012 nav/dvd unit with hard drive
Add a 2012 sync unit
Add backup camera
Add sirius

What would be nice:
Adding LCD rear view as an extra bonus

From what I've managed to figure out so far:
I need a rear view with mic
I need a new harness up to the mirror
I need the newer steering wheel controls
I need the sync compatible HU
I need the sync box
I need the audio amp (if its line out from the HU no, aftermarket would be nicer)
I need to run the line from the tailgate camera up to the HU

I probably need some new harnesses behind the dash?
I probably need the steering wheel control harness?

Any help or advice is highly appreciated at this point

Your gonna need more then you think. The 2012 unit is Digital. Your truck is analog. The backlight is blue in the 2012, yours is green. You need a new dual band Sirius/gps antenna. New steering wheel controls and steering wheel harness. Climate controls are not on the new steering wheel controls so you loose that function. Your gonna need to have a new harness made for the dash. Need a new sync/aux port. Headliner or mirror mic(I did the headliner mic). Rear view camera and harness. It's capable of being done but it comes down to how much yon want to spend. I would recommend using a 2009 nav unit(mine is from an 09 expedition) I believe 2010 units are analog as well but not 100% sure. New sync module and new Sirius module. It's a lot of work but worth it in the end.

I bought a 2010 nav unit with hard drive to put in my 08.plugged it in and most of it worked but the audio was really faint because it's a lineout signal and my truck doesn't have the built-in amp.steering wheel controls worked and with a GPS antenna the nav will work.I have a 5 channel crossfire amp I could put in but just not sure if I want to do all that.probably gonna just get on of the cheap head units from eBay.

Ok...2009 it shall be. Spent some time digging through parts, and that's a much more cost effective option, and seems somewhat easier.

Now, I think the nav kit with amp and all I see on ebay seems like the easiest solution.

What about adding sync? Can I just grab the oem 2009 kit from ford or do I need something special?

I would check with Steve Redmyer for the sync parts before going to the dealer. He can usually get pretty good deals. To add the sync your gonna need to remove a lot of stuff(steering wheel, radio, pass side airbag and glove box, instrument cluster, and driver side a piller trim to runs the mic wire) your gonna need a whole new harness from Steve but it's all plug and play and his directions are pretty good. Your best bet is to get everything from him. Even if it cost you a little more his harness and all very well built. I messed up my clock spring when I installed my stuff and he found me a new one for half the cost of the dealer. I also pinched my sirius antenna wire when I switched over to dual band and he shipped me a new one at no cost. He is a top notch guy and will always make sure your taken care of.
