mods in sig, was running fine all day prolly put 60or so miles on it and towed a buddies car as well no issues. left to go pickup oil for the womans xterra and half way there lost power, ran really rough and then stalled. sat a few min restarted and major power loss and horrible vibration while driving. stalled again pulling into parts store......NO CODES at all. after stalling 4-5 more times i got it home. has no power at all when it does run. smokes white while reving in nuetral. did basics checking fluids and such to no avail. only thing a bit odd to me atleast is the wires going to the icp sensor are really soft and squishy. please help cause my brother cant come down till monday night too look it over and i gotta get to work monday

Check fuel pressure. Sending unit in tank could be stopped up.

Can you get it on a good scan tool for diesels? Do a buzz test to see if the injectors are all firing. You could have burned off an under valve cover harness. So only 1 bank of cyls would be firing. Check that and possibly the IDM or injector drive module.

Strange that it's not throwing any codes. Also strange how that if you let it sit, it'll run till it dies again. Sounds like something is getting sucked up...chocking the motor, stalling it, and then as you let it sit, whatever it is settles back down, and allows you to start the motor again. interesting...

yea i know. theres roughly 1/4 tank in it and since i have owned it this is about the lowest its been. i flipped the key on a bit ago and hopped under the truck to listen to the pump and i think that might be part of the problem. it kept changing pitch while doing its priming cycle

try the fuel sending unit, those cartridges get plugged. & u want less then empty (on gauge). they are very heavy when u pull them. fuel weighs 7#'s a gallon I drained mine & it was still heavy with 2 people, also do the harpoon mod when you have your tank out:thumb:
mine ran WAY better after cleaning cartridges & mine were barely dirty

well truck has been at the dealer since thurs. they ran the contr. test and came up with #8 being bad. while apart i had them replace all the inj o-rings as well as the uvc harness's as prev maint. as of now the truck was running ok and then f/p started to fluctuate up and down. the tech and myself seem to agree this may have been the root cause of the inj issue with the fuel cavitating. tomorrow he is dropping the tank to check the pickup. bunch of $$ later it should be better than new

Would it be easier to remove the box? In the past I have removed the box because I didn't want to break the lines or the sending unit... I say this only because my truck has been acting the same way...

i think its a cam shaft senser the way it sounds
did the cheack engine light come on at all
cps is not the cause of his vibration and loss of power,it simply wont start if the cps is bad.like dude up top said, the under valve cover harness could be fried, look at the connectors that go to the valve covers, unplug and look for burnt prongs, you honestly need a scanner(not a code reader) you need to check the ipr values and the icp psi, theres somthin going on with your oil, injectors or fuel,or maybe its the idm.see if you can find a scanner and run the test...right now you are shootin in the dark

well i got the truck back this afternoon and all is well. the root cause of the issue was a crack in the pickup tube. anything below 1/2 tank and it would suck air and cavitate. wayy too much $$ and all is good now, well besides my wallet
