I have an 01 7.3L with 68k miles on it. Started the truck yesterday and went 1/4 mile, truck began to run rough and S.E.S. light came on. I returned home, threw my scanner on for D.T.C's and found nothing. Fuel filter was replaced 600 miles ago. Checked connectors on valve covers all seemed to be o.k.
What next?

Was your scanner just a standard ODB2 reader like autozone has?

Yes it is, I also have an Edge Evolution. That is giving me a p1316 code, which appears to be involving the IDM. Could be a IDM or a common failure of an injector connector. I have a friend who has a buzz box. I think that will tell me what I need to know.

when you say rough, do you mean lack of power and lack of fuel delivery? im having the same problem. I put in neutural and restart and it goes away. weird!!! it is concerning me cuz its happening more and more. What was the problem with yours? can someone help me out? Well folks herre's the good news...... I did a buzz test and cyls 2,6 were open. That is the drivers side. Pulled the valve cover and VIOLA!!!! the injector harness inside the valve cover came un-connected!!!!! I re-connected the harness, installed valve cover and all is well..
And you were expecting me now to tell you the bad news, well this story has a happy ending. Has been running fine now for three days. Dealer would has very easily charged me a new gaskey, wire harness plus IDM on top of the diagnosis. Hope this helps some of you.

im having the same problem, i had to replace my idm , it ran fine for two weekan an has started having problems again, ill have to chack my harness again but a buzz test on the injectors said #3 was weak..
