I have the F106S pointed straight down. I drain it straight into a 5 gallon race fuel can without a hose. That's just because it's convenient though. If I went straight out I would use a hose for sure.
How are you pointing it straight down when it comes out the side?

Here are the 2 I am looking at.

Fumoto Original F316L FL-Series Engine Oil Drain Valve, 1 Pack, Bronze https://a.co/d/iQrNMz1

Fumoto F106N FN-Series Drain Valve with Long Nipple with Lever Clip https://a.co/d/a2qh21t

Out of those two, I would recommend the 90° one. You won't need a hose. Especially if you drain into a 5 gal bucket like most do.
I went with the 106SX and not the originally posted model. Sorry about that head scratcher! Lol!! It swivels 360° and i wanted to be sure it pointed straight down.

I have the 90 degree that points down. I like that one, less oil blowing when it’s windy.
