2020 10 Speed issue

So first F250 for me, I’ve had several duramax, one ran/Cummins, two 7.3 excursions. I bought a new 2020 F250 with the 6.7 and the new 10 speed. So far I’m really happy with the everything about the truck. I’ve had it about 2 weeks now, and I’ve got 1900 miles on it.

Driving home on the interstate and all of the sudden the truck seems to be in limp mode. Check engine light comes on, tranny stays in 7’th gear. Any ideas? I normally stay away from the first year of new stuff, but I figured Ford would have things figured on any super duty they release before they release it being it’s such a big chunk of their business.... not off to a good start 😞

Man I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come. Please let us know what the dealer says...

Made it home, drive with it like this for about 4-5 hours. Two times it acted like it was in neutral and would free rev, but after putting it in neutral and back to drive it would re-engauge and be in 7’th. Turning the truck all the way off would seem to reset it and it would use all gears, but with cruise control on around 75, just cruising, it would error out again and get stuck in 7’th.
I don’t know what the error code is, my edge insight CTS 2 won’t display any vehicle information or read any dtc. Will drop at dealer tomorrow and keep y’all posted.

I hope you took video of it happening. Vehicles are known to miraculously fix themselves once they pull into the dealership...

You might want to consider down loading Forscan and buying a OBD adapter. The OBDlink EX is the newly released adapter that was devolped between OBDlink and Forscan. Works great on my 2020.

Thanks for the tips on the OBDLink MX and the app, ordering both tomorrow.

I definitely got a video, and this one isn’t going to heal just seeing the white coat(I definitely know what hour talking about). I wish I had got a video of the free revving part too, that is much more of a safety concern if you lose power while driving, especially in the mountains where I live.

I really hope this is a fluke, so far I really really like this truck, but dependability is paramount for me.... then having a nice big comfortable cabin and 1050 ft lb 🙂

Did you check the trans fluid?
Did the dealer/factory overlook a low fluid level?
When you pull the dipstick is the fluid dark, foamy, milky or smells bad?
Might be a good place to start.
