2003 F-350 front dual shock question

Hello looking for some help here. Changing out shocks in the front for a buddy of mine but he has a dual front shock system. I ordered bilsteins bit the bolt hole is incorrect on them. What was on there is a pro comp es3000 shocks with a 191/2” collapsed height and 32” expanded. Does anyone know what bilstein 5100 series shock i can use upfront. Thanks for any help. Dont know what lift it has since he bought it used. I bought some bilsteins on amazon but they dont fit the hardware/bolts through one of the shocks bushings.

Bilstein makes a dual shock specific shock, with several lift height variations, make sure you're not using their single shock application.
The dual Bilsteins I have on my '04 had a sleeve in the box for running a through bolt style mount (I have the Rancho mount that uses stock style mounting pins)

35x12.5x18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on Method MR309 wheels

agreed you want a dual valved shock or you will be double up the rebound compression rates


that being said what is the fitment issue ? you can install sleeves on the bolts to compensate for bushing diameter differences

The bilsteins shocks i bought for the front has one end diameter with the sleeve to small for the bolt to fit through and the other end has no sleeve. So im thinking i need to order different style shocks and a sleeve kit possibly. How do i know what size lift he has up front? The rear took a 2-4”lift bilstein shock.

you would have to measure his truck suspension from two points and compare to a stocker or just apply your rear shock findings 2"-4"

I would also use the measurements you have from the old shocks compressed uncompressed length for verification on the new ones if they looked like they had decent travel in both directions

if I had the proper length and valved shocks in hand other than the bushing issue I would get new bushings or figure out a method to mount them vs the return re order hassle


this is where a brick and motor 4x4 shop can shine over online

The bolt in your 3rd picture appears to have an old rusty sleeve on it? Is the sleeve too big to go in the new bushing? If it doesn't fit with the sleeve, pull the sleeve and just use the bolt, Not all applications will use the sleeve

Yeah the old shocks sleeve seized with rust. I heated and cut one off to get the bolt freed but the bolt doesnt fit the bilstein shock i ordered for the front. The one i ordered was for a stock single shock setup upfront: Going to call bilstein to see what i need.

The ones I used were #33-104645 but mine were for a 4"-6" lift
