30 minutes if you don't have to go searching for a plastic rivet like I did. You need an 8mm (I think) socket and a small screw driver or awl to push the plastic rivets up from the bottom.

It could be a couple things. I'm not super well versed I the SD, but most modern button activated 4x4 systems have solenoids to engage, sensors to make sure it is engaged and that sort of thing.
