I feel like Jonas in the belly of the whale. I'm trapped in the heart of the beast. I live smack dab in the middle of this SoCal city so when the SHTF I'm pretty much toast. Been looking for privacy acreage for the last 20 years but my elderly parents keep me near by. That's ok.......... I'm happy for now! Came close to buying but so far no deal. I have my truck and trailer paid off, off grid and ready to bug. I'm sure I"m not the only one with acre-envy!!!

People are like dirt. They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die.

Grew up on my folks place in Colorado. They were in the cattle business with just shy of 13,000 acres that backed up to USFS. Great place to grow up for a kid with a dirt bike! They sold out after I finished high school and the place is split up into a bunch of small parcels now for townies to live on. Makes me sick to my stomach whenever I drive thru there and see all the houses. Have a couple hundred acres left but even after 30 years have passed itís still hard to adjust.

1/8 acre or so in Socal.

Grew up in north central Washington, about 40 miles from the Canadian border. 26 miles to town, Omak. There was only 1 stoplight in the county, Okanogan. It wasn't some little county either, it's the largest county in the state.
We had 175 acres, backed up to state land, backed up to federal land, backed up to the north side of the reservation, that only had 1 dirt road for access.
I had my own camp site down by the creek.
Man I miss that place

I've got two places, one here in central Ohio on a city lot, and one down in southern Ohio, 85 Acres in Pine Holler . It's right next to the farm where I grew up - I bought in 1999. When my Grandfather bought his farm (located next-door) in the 60s the road was mostly just a rut in the creek and the kids would have to walk out out to catch the school bus... When I was a kid living on his place there were still outhouses (my great Grandparents never had a indoor toilet) We still had well water and we heated the house with coal until 1990 when we could finally afford propane heat... With a outside antenna you could count on getting two TV stations, sometimes three. For fun on summer nights back in the 80s us kids would walk the half mile out the holler to the main road where the pavement started and just sit in the road and count cars that passed going on up the creek. Most nights we be able to count them all on one hand... Not so much anymore. The gravel road is chip and seal, hell the mailman even let us move our mailboxes out here right in front of our houses. City water, the local cable company even strung a wire - but the service is so sucky/costly we don't use it. I've got two houses there - my Mom lives in one. Sadly now that Mom is older we are thinking seriously of selling out and moving her in with us in town. I hate to see the place go, but I'm no spring chicken anymore either (LOL) and with two places and three houses - well - the fix it list grows faster than I can keep up with. My dream was to retire "down home" but the wife and kids know central Ohio as home and the "farm" just as a place we go to see grandma. I dunno how it's gonna end up but we'll manage. There's my epic answer to how many acres. Heh. I'm damn long winded.
