LoxDiesel Are you able to perform a buzz test? If so listen to them closely. Had one with a bad harness that would kill a couple of inectors. When you buzz it and hear all 8 cycles still clicking you have a chaff. I could never find it. Had to buy a harness.

Miles Kreh @Patrick Feeley I have a 1996 auto.

Miles Kreh @PDR60 That’s what my teacher told me to check. I’m about to go take a look at it.

PDR60 I had a similar problem and found the harness from the main connector to the valve covers to be the culprit. I unwrapped each side and found wiring that was oil soaked and the insulation just about all gone on 3- 4 injector wires. Cut the bad wire out and solder new wire in. Do one at a time as not to get things wired wrong. The drivers side was worse as the pcv elbow was hard and leaking oil onto the harness. It will take a couple of hours to do it right but once complete, problem solved.

partyman97_3 Maybe Sean will chime in. He is our resident 6.0 guy, but he will know the 7.3. @LoxDiesel

Patrick Feeley That is really puzzling! If it is not the IDM (which looks like you have ruled that out), and the injector wiring is good end-to-end, I would probably look for another PCM to try. What year truck and transmission do you have? Cheers!

Miles Kreh @Patrick Feeley I bribed a buddy to let me borrow his idm by helping with the 3 inch downpipe conversion. That was worse than I remember. Anyway my truck acted the same if not worse with his idm and his truck ran perfectly with mine. I’m completely stuck. The pcm has corrosion on it but not on any of the internals. Idk at this point

Patrick Feeley I would guess its the IDM, but .. If you know of someone with a known good IDM, maybe try that one. Years ago I bought 2 IDMs off ebay for $50 each. They are my spares in the toolbox. Cheers!

Miles Kreh @Hydro are the aftermarket idms known to go bad? I have a 120volt reman one that’s relatively new. It was replaced about a year ago from the guy who owned the truck before me.

Miles Kreh @Patrick Feeley Yes the UVCHs are brand new motor craft parts. I’ve made sure that everything important has been oem. Is there any way to check the idm? I’m just totally stumped what could cause 1,5,7 to missfire but not 3.
