B-rine I went with the 4" ss system from MBRP. From downpipe to tailpipe. Sounds great, picked up mpg, and was very reasonable on price. Installed here at home one Saturday. I highly recommend as I'm 50 and no 'hot rodder' myself

MSM Just take the muffler off. I have a 2000, 7.3. When the muffler fell apart a couple years ago, I just had them take it off and replace it with a straight piece of pipe. So I have the stock pipe now minus the muffler. Much better sound now, but not as loud as you might expect. The turbo whistle is very nice.

guitarnut Thanks everyone. I'm going to stay stock for now until I can find a local owner with an upgrade. I'm afraid of being too loud.

BoatsNHoez MBRP works quite well. As does Magnaflow...not loud or obnoxious.

Install is a breeze and shouldn't take a competent shop that much time.

guitarnut Hansel - I am only a couple hours away in Savannah. I'm on my way.hahahaha

Does anyone have a video or sound clip of their straight through exhaust? I had a 95 7.3 with a similar exhaust to the one Corey was suggesting. It sounded like a school bus. It was awesome and I loved the sound. With the stock exhaust I can barely even hear the turbo whistle. The 95 was a bit loud.

Also, I would like to hear it in the cab. My understanding is that the 95 had single shot injectors and the 2001 has split shot making it much quieter.

I don't get why they make new diesels so quiet. I looked at new trucks and the new f250 is a mess IMHO. Too much electronics and no way to work on it. Everything is so shoved in there that cab off seems to be the only way to work on it and it sounds like a gasser. The new Dodge Cummins is better than the new powerstroke IMHO. Nice sound and it looks easy to work on. I couldn't justify dumping 50k in a new truck that I don't need and only commute 22 miles round-trip so I decided I'd put a little into my 7.3. had the AC replaced and now I want her to sound better.

hansel I just installed a Summit Racing 4" exhaust and it sounds great, and it was only $250-300. If you lived close by I would just say come on over and we can install it.

I have a 4" Diamond Eye straight on my 7.3 and a 4" Flo-Pro with a straight thru muffler on my 6.0
The 7.3 is a little louder but it's by no means obnoxious, it sounds great from behind when it's going down the road and it's quiet enough in the cab. The 6.0 is too quiet, almost stock quiet, I plan to put a muffler delete on it eventually just so I can hear it.

Any straight-pipe will be obnoxious. Get something with even a straight-through muffler and at least it will take out some of the zap out of it. I have a 4 inch turbo-back Diamond-Eye exhaust, sounds nice not loud at all. You can buy them either way with a straight pipe or muffler.

Corey - do you do business with Brians diesel in brooklet ga? That's where I would take it.

I dont know them, but I do have a couple friends just outside of Savannah, and that is close to you. I do think $800 is definitely steep for the exhaust and install. If you want good fitting so the shop/person doing the install doesn't have to fight too much with it, MBRP would be the better choice. They have muffer and aluminized for a decent price and you dont need stainless down where you are at.

Free shipping. For a shop that does these often, $200 should be max to install. Most strictly diesel shops are close to $100hr or so. Closer to bigger cities the price goes up, and very rural shops are usually less. We are $85hr dealerships are around $110-120 here.

If you want me to see if one of my friends down there wants to do it, let me know and Ill ask.
