He had his normal 3 bolt fail and needed a starter asap and hes been very happy with the one he has now.
Ever since I've had the truck, it has only had a 2-bolt starter even though the bell housing has 3 holes. Hadn't given any thought to having a 3-bolt starter. I hadn't heard of the differences in motor speed. Good to know.

The old one lasted a bit over 2 years. Don't know if that's good or not. Maybe next time, when I suspect it's going, I should research starters.

Recommendations?

I got home, turned off the truck and tried to re-start it. Only clicking of the fender relay. Rained overnight so I had to wait till it dried up, disconnected the batteries, under I go to get it out. Off to Autozone to get a replacement. They had a new one or a rebuilt - I went with the new one. Back in, batts hooked up and all working fine. Cranks a LOT faster now!

402,866-ish. Should be getting the truck back tomorrow or Tuesday. Found out the trans had a leak, too and was 4 qts low--that's what ate it. Getting rebuilt as well.

After it cooled and he replaced whatever broke, they guy was back on the road and no engine damage.
