Head Gasket?

I have installed these gages - engine temp, EGT, Trans, Boost. What are the early signs of a blow head gasket? What to look out for? Should I or should I not put a STC chip on my F250 04-6.0

Head gaskets can go on a stock or modded 04'. My bone stock 04' blew them at 60,000 miles. If your head gaskets are blown you'll be seeing white smoke out the exhaust, you'll be losing coolant and your engine will over heat.

Would a sign of the head gasket be going if there is preasure from the engine blowing coolant out of my resevor?

Not likely; that's probably a bad degas cap or a bad EGR cooler. BTW, in stock form your truck can do that, so it may just be that your coolant level is too high.

I've never had a problem w/my coolant being to high. I monitor all of my fluids very closely. It is not normal for coolant to be gushing out of my resevor.

FYI, you have positive pressure in the radiator system that normally stays below 16psi (degas cap rating). Once it goes higher than that, you have to look to exhaust or compression escaping into the coolant system. If it's exhaust, you have a bad EGR cooler. If it's compression, you have bad HG's. EGR coolers are very common to go out on the 6.0L's; even more common than bad HG's.

PS. The caps DO go bad AND my truck and thousands of others had a recall done to add a sticker to reduce the amount of coolant in the degas bottle. Since you didn't mention it in your post, I thought I would try to help you out if that were the case.

The cap on my 05 went bad. I went to NAPA and got a quick replacement. The place that does my oil changes noticed the bad cap. Which is why I got to them. They inspect the truck every time I go in for minor stuff I may over look. I am a newbe at this diesel stuff.

Glad they got it figured out. It shouldn't be but a week long job, unless they have to ship in the heads... I'm hoping you were able to have the diesel tech install some head studs... Good luck!

Man, that sucks. Are you still under warranty? When you're in for hg's ask if they will replace the stock bolts with ARP studs. I've heard of some shops putting in the studs when doing hgs under warranty. All you need to do is buy and provide the studs. Hopefully you get your rig back sooner then you think.

I made plans to leave California Dec. 20th to go back home to Texas but my Ford has taken a big $h!t on my plans and will not be able to get my truck back till after the 1st of the year.

Well that sucks. Any word about getting head studs installed? Nows the perfect time if you can...

They will not install anything after market.
