Now I’ve gone and done it… How you say?? Um, Garrett GT3788VA Power Max? Oh yea. That’s how you say!!! Chose the standard industrial finish on the case. There are lots of sexy options out there but I wanted mine to resemble stock even though it sounds like the SR-71 Blackbird starting up. It was a straight-forward R & R. I should have taken the forward heat shield off the turbo while mounted to the truck because it made removal much more difficult than it should have been. For some unexplained reason I thought it would make more sense to swap it after; then it was too late to do after I rolled it off the pedestal. New oil feed gasket, new drain o-ring, and new pedestal bolts. Running the Innovative Anarchy Race (aka. Extreme Race) and thank Heaven for the Detroit Locker.

Phase II (final) complete with PMF traction bars a while ago (Sep). I was just too lazy or probably too drunk to finish my report. That was pretty time consuming measuring the bars and mounting them. I smoked a ½” drill in the process while even using cutting lube. Went big and picked up a cobalt bit and never looked back. Advice to folks who like to do this yourself: measure, mock up, use clamps, disassemble, measure again, refit, verify, test access to your grease fittings, then cross your fingers and drill. And make sure your ground is level and the suspension is settled – that should really be first on the list. The bars fix the pinion angle and really focus the energy into the springs. The ride is now more firm and ‘truck-like”. Final ride height is 84” to the top of the factory roof rack….and my garage door goes to, yep, 83”. This is a thoughtfully constructed and well engineered system. Oh, I almost forgot; there aren’t any instructions. Enjoy!

Phase I complete with PMF traction bars: axle fixture mounted. 2” integrated block and modded-Bs resulted in +3” initial lift from my stock stance of 40” to top of wheel well. I went with the 2” block because I wanted to still have a chance to still get her in the garage – probably wont be able to do that any more….. Waiting for new suspension to settle for a few weeks before mounting bars and brackets. My MPG should skyrocket now that Im traveling down hill everywhere I go….

PMF Fabricated Unitized Floating Traction Block 64” bars– as listed for 2” block
(You can see and feel the quality. I KNOW where my money went and I approve! )

    B-codes out back – check
Modded with 2 lower leafs from stock springs.
Stock spring bolt is 11mm and way too short for mod. Replaced with ‘universal’ 7/16 spring bolt and after mounting and then cut to size after re-stacking. Don’t forget to leave a minimum of 2 full threads when you cut.

The comfort of the ride is enormously improved. The extra spring travel really smoothes thing out and the spring rate is still firm enough for the Xcar. I drove over some rough roads that Ive experienced some uncommanded steering inputs with the stock springs and the X tracks remarkably well on that same road now with the modded-Bs.

    B-codes 6C3Z 5560 F - $605 to the door Tousley Mike R.

Mag-Hytec Tranny Pan. 7.5 qts extra pan capacity. Now I wonder if my sweet new SunCoast filter will ever see any more fluid because the temps wont go to 165. Ill probably have to tow something or make a run to the hills. Suggest grinding the 3 cooling fins down that blank the rear 3 cap screws (one fin per c/s) next to the tranny crossmember to fit a long hex ball in there to properly torque.

Cancelled!!!– Centrifuge!!! The Penske truck I rented recently with an international engine was equipped with a centrifuge. That mo-fo sounded like you were sitting next to an East German air raid siren. F that!!! I emergency stopped the truck because I expected the engine or turbo to explode – not kidding.

On the other hand, a fixed and bench–mounted centrifuge would be really cool to purify things like hydraulic and tranny fluid to use as mixed or alternative fuels.

Sun Coast remote tranny filter. Really nice, Clark, really nice.
