You can get a used Bendpac 2 post lift on craig s list for that amount- if you have the room for it.
I just missed one- it was sold, around $1300.
I have 11 foot ceiling in my shop so it will fit.
With my back issues it is just too hard getting up off the floor- without a helper to retrieve tools, this is the next logical step to be able to keep wrenching. The one I missed had a 9000# capacity, perfect for the SD and my 69 Ranchero project.
It will also allow the 3 car garage to become a four car for storage.

I looked into the quick jacks, but I do not trust the strength ratings, or the locking mechanisms. Plus, they would always be in the way of doing anything other than wheel changes, or brake work.

Currently I do not have ceiling height for a lift, so I use some well blocked homemade Jenga block wheel stands that I made from 2x4's, at 16 inches off the floor, there is almost 23 inches of clearance to the bottom of the frame. Plenty of room, and the car is still resting on it;s wheels.

I bought a lift due to my back as well. I would look hard at a 4 post instead of a 2 post. You still have to get on your knees to position the lift points. Then raise it and recheck to make sure they are making contact where you intended. With a 4 post I just drive on the ramps and up she goes. I went with Bendpak. I also did a jack so I can do wheel service. I regret not doing it many years ago.
