Pretty wild.

Ford says that the front seat belt pretensioner that deploys in a crash can generate excessive sparks and in some cases, could ignite the carpet or carpet insulation in the area of the B-pillar.

Whats also funny is that there are only 800 trucks in Mexico with carpet.

Quote:
The defect: select 2017 to 2019 Ford Super Duty vehicles with the carpet flooring have an increased risk of fire due to a front seat belt pretensioner that can cause excessive sparks in a crash.

The hazards: Ford says that the front seat belt pretensioner that deploys in a crash can generate excessive sparks and in some cases, could ignite the carpet or carpet insulation in the area of the B-pillar. A fire in the B-pillar area could spread within the vehicle, causing an increased risk of injury from fire. Ford says it is aware of one fire related to this condition, but it isn’t aware of any injuries.

Components: front seat belt pretensioner

Affected vehicles: Super Duty vehicles impacted by this recall were built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from October 8th, 2015, to October 29th, 2019.

Number of affected vehicles: this safety recall action covers 490,574 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories; 56,112 vehicles in Canada are covered, and 852 in Mexico.

The fix: dealers will apply foil tape to the carpet and carpet insulation and modify the sound deadener on the backside of the B-pillar trim panel.

Owners should: contact their local Ford dealer.

Nothing like stylish foil tape in your truck!!

I'll take my chances...

They know of 1 instance in over 500,000 trucks. My math ain't that great but I'll take those odds any day.

Ford sure seems to have their hands full with the 17-19 Super Duty. Block heater cords, door locks freezing, daytime running lights, tailgates randomly opening, and now spontaneous combustion of the carpet.

lol. I also bought a base model with all the goodies I wanted. Sometimes all these frills and thrills that come on vehicles can be headaches.

In 2019 you could still order a truck with manual windows and locks!!!!

I donít have carpet so I guess Iím safe...

We have all seen what can happen to any vehicle in an accident and aluminum body didnít help the cause. If you are in a wreck the chance of sparks on the carpet are the least of your worries. And s#it if they elected to go with the cheap flammable lowest bidder carpet, at least they could have left the ash tray. I drop more cigar ash on my rubber floor than some seatbelt friction sparks lol. Sorry Ford, still not getting your hands on my rig

19 F450

Iíve owned previous vehicles but I wonít waste the forum space to list them, oh ya, and you donít care
