Thoughts on buying a new 2019 6.7

My 2012 has cost me a good bit of money over the past few months and has left me stranded a few times. I've lost trust in it's reliability and thinking about moving on. What are folks thoughts on buying a new 2019 6.7? At this point should I hang in there a few more months and buy a newer 2020? I hate buying vehicles and had hoped to get 300K out of my 2012.

Welcome to the org. So the 2011-2012's were plagued with issues. To be fair anytime a new engine/series is made, its best to wait a year or two as the kinks are being worked out. the 2014s and newer really seem to make a good name for them selves. The earlier models had issues with turbo bearings, glowplugs, fuel system and all sorts of issues that wouldn't come up until its been driven for a couple of years.

the 2014 and newer is being touted as the new 7.3l. If you google you'll still see Cummins and Duramax had some issues with all the new epa and emissions equipment too. Had a couple 2012 6.7l cummins blow headgaskets before 100k stock pulling light under 8k/lb trailers at work to bring up an example etc.

The 2020 is when the new 10 speed transmission is being released. In my opinion you could be in the same boat with the trans. First year of the new trans behind a Powerstroke. It has been out a few years in the 150’s but the Powerstroke puts out a lot more power.

A number of folks have said the same thing about the transmission. I am leaning toward going with a 2019.

I think reliability wise you would be better off with a 2019. The engine trans combo has been out for 8 years and is proving to be pretty reliable. The aluminum body is on its 3rd year on the super duty and 5th year overall if you count the 150. I think one of the main complaints is the sunroof. so if you opt out of that i think you would have a pretty reliable truck with relatively few issues that are a pattern problem.

I’ll most likely end up with a new 2020. The trans is “new”, not the same as the F150. It’s been designed on collaboration with GM, built by Ford.

The 2020 has 7 million miles of testing on it. Manufacturers simply cannot afford to put out junk anymore.

However, I do believe first years are a bit of “shake out” and the trucks get tweaked as the model progresses. But this really doesn’t scare me off.

They have great deals on 2019 right now. I’d be tempted if I was in the mrkt right now. The 19’s are very nice trucks.

My bad. I thought it was the same 10 speed as the 150.

Pretty sure the 10spd going in the SD's is solely developed by Ford. GM uses the Allison for their Duramax so there's no need to go in on one with Ford. The 10spd for gas applications, yes, that was built by both, and is brilliant.

Considering the recent pricing incentives, X-plan pricing, and any other pennies you can dig out the 2019 would be a sweet buy.....until Ford drops the 2020 HP/TQ numbers.

I just picked up a 2019 on Friday. Was looking solely at Lariats and a buddy sent me a platinum a dealership had discounted big time so I wound up with it because it was only about $2,000 more then Lariat. Find you a good deal on a 2019 and snatch it up!
