I had 244 engine oil temp pulling the camper which was probably 12-13,000 lbs. It was up a pretty long grade but probably only 3% though so not too steep.

250 towing 16000k 5vr through and around Tonapah last Sept. I took my foot out of it and and went down quickly.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what cools with what loop? I think I’ve read there are 2 cooling loops in the 6.7. Is one just for emissions?

In 6.4 days, when oil temps got this far out of wack from coolant temps, it was death nail.

It has 2 systems. The main one cools the engine, engine oil, egr, and turbo. The other does the fuel cooler, trans cooler, egr and CAC.

So I did a multi state trip towing doubles fully loaded the two trailers together weighed 23k I towed up I40 into flagstaff which Is some brutal grades. I found my temps consistently got to 244 oil 221 water 230 trans pretty quick on hills but the temps stopped right there. The fan was on sometimes. So I’m pretty comfortable the cooling systems have the ability to keep the temps in check, it’s just we have to Re-cage our brains to accept those numbers as all three are higher than we were used to in previous model years. Albeit the outside temps were 60-75 so I am still anxious to see what happens in OAT of 100+. In late July I got to haul a 25k trailer Vegas to Boise to Seattle so I’ll get my share if high OAT temps then and I’ll post.

Iíve seen similar temps. I got the trans up to almost 250 while towing a steep grade going to my kids dirtbike race. Rough road so I could only go about 10 mph. Towing about 16K. Temps dropped quickly once I was able to speed up. It is something to get used to since a lot of us are coming from a 6.0. On another note what happened to the person that was going to install the BPD cooler??

Just took a ride through the Eisenhower Tunnel. On the climb, I saw temps as high as 239 EOT. I was pulling about 6500 lbs at the time.

I did post on another thread but I saw oil temps as high as 250 and trans temps of 230 when towing Cajon Pass in CA when the ambient temps were in the 100+ range. The following day I saw mid 240s for oil and trans in the mid to high 220s when up in Utah pulling a loaded trailer on 8% grades.

I towed real heavy and 100+ OAT up 8% (posted) grade for 26 twisty mountain miles 1200 feet to 10,500 at cedar break national monument, trailer and gear about 28k. The trans maxed at low 230s the EOT maxes at high 240s. Both of those I think are entirely acceptable with these modern engines and oil. The coolant is likely fine too but what was more concerning. I know the coolant is tied to cooling the trans and the oil so that system was getting a workout. The coolant would get to 224 and the fan would roar on pretty soon after. It got to 226 another time and 228 once. When the fan roared on the temps dropped very rapidly it would pull the coolant down to 216 and kick off and then it would immediately start rising. EOT and trans stayed pretty constant. This was in 2nd and 3rd gear one time for 2-3 miles was 2nd gear pedal to floor and it was giving it all it was going to do, attaining about 25 mph. The fan controlled the temps great when it was commanded on so I guess it’s good to go as that’s where engineers set it. In my world of LS motors 220+ coolant is sckethy.

What gearing do you have? I donít see how these numbers are possible.
