Thinking about getting a new/used truck...

So I sold my 6.0 and I was thinking about getting either a 19 or used 17-18. Basically I'm wondering if there are any substantial issues with them? Anything I should look for when buying used?

Thanks!

As far as I can see here’s what I’ve learned, I own a 17.

17: body panel fitment issues, and has torque management

18: Beefed up internals on engine, torque management taken off

19: better speakers in Stereo system (BO verses other crap in 17/18
19s don’t have all the forscan sorted, not a big deal

I’m sure there are other things and ones will chime in.

I’m looking to upgrade to a 2020. Anxious to see what the changes so far advertised will do to HP and TQ numbers, and how the 10 speed handles it all. if any other cool stuff comes out.

What's this torque management? Should I worry about a 17?

Is the 18 worth it for the beefed up engine? What did they beef up and why.

Any issue with running small tunes on these trucks, possibly trans issues?

Most, if not all the 17s had the stronger rods. Torque management is still there on 18+ just a significant seat-of-the-pants feel difference. Peak power is the same.

Early 17s had lpop issues and leaky sunroofs.

I'd be leary of the new 10spd trans.

I'd assume these are all covered under warranty? Was there a recall on it or symptom based warranty repairs? Lpop failure isn't good, hell nothing is good failure wise but lpop could cause detrimental engine damage..

Those ten speeds are the 2020s right

Thanks. Im trying to find a compare/contrast with the newer body trucks, so 17-19s. No luck yet.

I wanted a 19 loaded Lariat chassis cab F550 but they arenít to be found and itís too late to order one.
The 10 speed is a big plus in my opinion. A lot of money has gone into its development. That doesnít
mean it canít have problems but I am going for it. A big plus is that the derated 6.7 in the F550 wonít
work it nearly as hard as the full blown engine in the 250 and 350. Thatís my story and Iím sticking to it!

I had the 10 speed in my F150. Smooth as butter.
