Automatic exhaust brake

What does everyone think of this. I kind of like it. Seems spot on with when it knows when to apply itself. Other than that...not to much different than the pre 17s

I think the automatic exhaust brake really shines when towing downhill. In automatic mode, the exhaust brake will hold the vehicle speed. I have had no issues with it.

Im looking forward to trying it out on my new 19 F450, as soon as my GN isn't buried anymore. Didn't have that standard on my 14, even though the turbo was setup for it, Ford just left it auto, there wasn't any switch. However BD Diesel fixed that with a little device specifically for use with the 14 turbo, and in active mode, man that thing stopped 25,000 lbs real quick, closed the vanes and downshifted, just as if it were stock.

I turn it to auto every time I start up as well as tow/haul as I’m always towing. Seems to always work great. I wish it came on with tow haul, not sure why it doesn’t. Also haven’t played with the manual mode, always just push button again to auto. In any case it works great. Is there any downside to having it on always when towing? I would prefer it just come on with tow haul, not sure why it doesn’t. If it were up to me the truck would just be in tow haul and exhaust brake all the time without options. Didn’t buy a 450 to mall crawl so obviously it’s towing, always

I use mine all the time when towing (which is what the truck does 99% of the time)....in automatic mode. No issues whatsoever. Nice feature.

I try to remember to turn mine on allways as well. It seems to change the shift points. Seems alot firmer too.

Towed my 5er with my 2019 for the first time this past weekend. Tow haul mode and exaust brake ON not auto (florida is flat). And it worked amazing. Slows the truck down great. Just get on the brake slightly and the exhaust brake kicks on and you can see the boost rise from the back preassure and the truck starts down shifting. Never had to get on the brakes hard in order to slow down only to come to a complete stop. Love it!!

I suspect the main reason it doesn't, is because you don't want engine braking on slick oricy roads. When it's slick out, I want to apply the brakes ( or release the brakes) I think it could be rather scary for the EB to activate on a steep hill when it thinks the truck is speeding up and put your rear end into a slide.

Same concept of why you don't use your cruise control on snow roads.
