About 3 days ago I noticed my truck began a regen cycle. It was obvious as the up to the moment fuel mileage had gone south. Less than 5 min later I came to bridge construction with a temporary traffic signal light. I’d been thru there recently and knew I’d be stationary 2-5 minutes so once stopped I put it in park. While stopped I recalled watching a video about the regen cycle and then remembered something about the regen cycle ceasing if the truck is put in park. Sure enough once rolling again it was obvious that regen had ceased. I was still 20+ miles from home so I expected it to re enter the regen cycle but that’s yet to happen after over 200 miles of travel. If I weren’t so OCD about the MPG, watching it constantly I’d think maybe it’d began regen much earlier without me noticing but I’m sure that’s not the case. Normally the regen cycle lasts 15-20 min before it completes the operation. If it ceased once I went to park I’m certain the cycle lasted less than 5 min.
Not sure if there’s any value to this story but I thought it interesting.
I've determined that regen cycles can be puzzling. I've been taking my wife to the hospital 2 hours away as much as 3-4 times a week lately, so I had the DPF screen activated at the dealership (free) so I can monitor how full it is. While on the interstate it normally gets to 100%, then regens to 0%, and repeats the process.
On one trip, it was at 55% when I noticed it went into a regen cycle. The cycle only lasted about 5 minutes and it was back to 0% again. I'm still scratching my head on that one.
RJC2, when I went to th dealer I asked them to unlock the dpf screen and they said that they were not able to. I also asked if they could disable the double honk if I shut a door with it running and I'm outside the truck. They said there is no way to do that also..... Maybe it was just that dealer?
Yeah, my Tech told me that the double honk is a safety issue so Ford wouldn't allow him to disable it. As far as the DPF screen goes, I was the first person to ask for this, and the Tech had to update his computer to get the programming in order to do it. He said that their internet was very slow and it was taking a long time, so I had to return the next day.
It can be done, its a matter of whether they're willing to do it for you. Doesn't say much for the Service Dept., or at least the particular Tech that you had. You may want to tell your Salesman and Service Manager that you'll keep this in mind the next time you're buying a new truck. That may get the ball rolling. Lets face it. These trucks cost double to triple what the average car costs. Not a sale that I'd want to loose.
Recently I requested my dealership activate the ReGen screen on a warranty issue visit. The service writer claimed no knowledge of said screen or feature. Will have to discuss with diesel mechanic next time.
You can do this and a variable plethora of other things (including all the honks, bells, lights, and beeps) with a simple ODBII dongle and a (free) copy of FORScan. I went with the ODBLink MX Bluetooth dongle from Amazon.com. Have used it and the software on several Ford trucks.
Everything you need (download, setup, license, info, etc.) is over at forscan.org
